Are you getting the flu jab this year?

Every year I wonder the same thing, do I get it or not! Most years I feel ropey for a few days after and that’s what puts me off. If everyone has had it yet this year how have you felt after? I’m early 40s if that’s important!

I paid for one as my mother is ill
in hospital and I want to protect the people in the ward.

MouseofCommons · 14/10/2024 13:53

Yes. I'm 50 so it's the first year I've not had to pay.
They wouldn't give me a covid jab though which annoyed me. I don't have time to be ill. Vaccines don't affect me.

User3456 · 14/10/2024 13:56

Yes, I had mine last week. Slightly sore arm for a day, not bad enough to take painkillers for. I have got ME/CFS following a virus and am concerned that getting flu would cause a relapse for me. I will get a covid one too but I don't like having both on the same day personally.
I also paid privately last year for the pneumonia one, apparently that lasts 10 years, it was £70 at Boots.
Too many bugs doing the rounds, all I seem to hear when out is people coughing and sneezing, people don't seem to even wear a mask when they are actively ill anymore :-(

I will get my Covid and flu together. The flu shot often gives me a killer headache and the Covid isn’t great either so I do it on a Friday on a weekend I can afford to be down. So I will be a bit late this year because I don’t have such a weekend for a bit yet.

Digimoor · 14/10/2024 13:59

no

Mimilamore · 14/10/2024 14:00

Already had flu, covid and shingles... arm felt a bit bruised for couple of days but other than that no ill effects.

skyeisthelimit · 14/10/2024 14:07

I've had flu and covid jabs a week ago. Both arms were painful for just under a week and flu one got a bit inflamed but went down again.

I have had flu twice in my life and I wouldn't wish it on anyone, I literally couldn't move and was off my feet for a week and exhausted for about another week afterwards.

OtherS · 14/10/2024 14:08

Had covid and flu last week, covid jab hurt and gave me horrible fever but flu jab never gives me any symptoms. Consider both very worth getting as I caught flu when I was a fit and healthy 28 year old and ended up in hospital. Three months later I developed multiple sclerosis, which is apparently often kicked off by an unrelated virus (I believe other autoimmune conditions are the same). When I was in hospitals the nurses told me off for not getting the jab and obviously I very much regret it! Not only are you helping yourself, you're also helping other people (like me) whose immune systems aren't in great shape. I very much wish there was more of a national drive to get people immunised as whilst my MS is thankfully very well managed, I'm terrified of catching another virus which could make me drastically worse. Don't forget, flu kills people every year and they must've caught it from someone. Don't be that someone.

Joycedelight · 14/10/2024 14:08

I've never had the flu jab. Never had flu either.

C152 · 14/10/2024 14:08

No. Never have, never will.

DoublePeonies · 14/10/2024 14:09

Yes. Like others - work pay for it, and having seen my young fit and healthy boss hospitalized with flu last winter, I'd actually pay for it going forward if needed.

Arm not great on Sunday if I knocked it - or rolled over onto it in my sleep, but otherwise fine so far

Nellieinthebarn · 14/10/2024 14:10

I've got higher level of risk, so I've had flu and covid jab already. To me its worth feeling a bit shit for a couple of days to be a lower risk of getting proper flu or covid. This year I only felt a bit off the next day, nothing that would've made me stay off work, then fine the day after.

Tdcp · 14/10/2024 14:12

I had it this time because I'm pregnant with complications. I'm 38. I had some side effects like a bad sore throat and headache / tired but I usually react badly to any vaccine anyway.

colouringindoors · 14/10/2024 14:13

Definitely.

Also currently ill with Covid for 6 weeks so wouldn't recommend catching current strain(s)

Hotafternoon · 14/10/2024 14:15

Flu and Covid together booked for 23rd. Last year flu made my arm quite uncomfortable for a day or so, Covid was fine.

I'm due the shingles jab at some point too. 😩

itwasnevermine · 14/10/2024 14:16

Yep got it about ten days ago. Not offered a Covid booster but if I was, I'd take it.

MrsMitford3 · 14/10/2024 14:18

DH and I have both had the flu jab-he also had covid but no ill effects for either of us.

I have asthma so get an early appointment from GP.
Seems like a no brainer to me!

Idontgiveashitanymore · 14/10/2024 14:18

I am encouraged to have mine because of work, never had a problem with after effects .
im not having the Covid jab though I’ve had 5 before and had Covid twice so it’s a no now !

UpUpUpU · 14/10/2024 14:19

I had mine last week and it usually makes me tired for a day or two but didn’t this time. Just had a sore arm the next day but otherwise all good.

Bohomovies · 14/10/2024 14:21

I’ve had it. I had a headache the next day and was tired for a couple of days afterwards, but it was fine. I was very unwell with flu and pneumonia last winter (no jabs), and I don’t want a repeat of that this year.

AgileGreenSeal · 14/10/2024 14:21

No.
never have, never will

shazshaz · 14/10/2024 14:24

I had mine 2 weeks ago, arm a tiny bit sore but by the next morning that had cleared up. I'm unlucky because I have had flu 4 times in my life, and it is an absolute misery that I never want to go through again so I pay for my jab.

fussychica · 14/10/2024 14:25

Yep booked for next month when I get back to the UK. 68, always have it.
I had an extremely bad bout of flu about 8 years ago. I was extremely ill and it took me weeks to recover. Also caused scaring on my lungs so I'll do what I can to stop being that ill with flu again.

beakyboo10 · 14/10/2024 14:25

I had mine done last week at Morrisons pharmacy as it was only £12 if you had a more card. Slight achy arm that night but no other side effects and I pay every year (early 40's) after having flu 10 years ago.

Nourishinghandcream · 14/10/2024 14:27

Already had mine (58).
Never felt any after effects from either that or COVID jabs.😁
