Just a gentle reminder that if you see a hedgehog out during the day means it is in trouble. Please get it to a rescue asap.

Also as the weather is getting colder please consider leaving some food out for them so they can get lovely and fat before hibernating, dry cat or kitten food with a high meat content is recommended.

(@Wheelyweddingwipedout @Eckno @AgathaMystery and so many others promised @Pricklesinperil we’d keep fighting the good fight 🦔 ).

Absolutely!! We’re in full hedgehog watch here. I always think of our lovely PricklesinPeril - she was so lovely

Just realised the title should obviously say ‘Hedgehogs OUT during the day’ 🤦‍♀️

How timely, thank you! I saw a hedgehog walking across my garden today but by the time I got outside with a box and an old tea towel it had disappeared. I’m hoping it was just relocating as it looked quite purposeful but I’ve been on hedgehog watch ever since. Unfortunately our local hedgehog hospital has temporarily closed so I’ve no idea who I’d take one to now.

Oh no @Eckno hopefully if it is unwell you’ll see it again. Why has the local hedgehog hospital shut? Do they have a website or info somewhere of where you should take them whilst they are temporarily closed?

I’m not entirely sure what has happened. It’s incredibly sad as the woman who runs it is very passionate and works all hours, taking all the animals that nobody else will.
I have kept an eye out but not seen it again. I’m hoping it was just disturbed and was relocating. Im still feeding every night so there’s a food source.

Great thread!
We had a hedgehog in our garden during lockdown and rang a hedgehog sanctuary for advice as she was out in daylight, turned out she was pregnant!
We had 4 babies and spent lockdown watching them grow, absolutely fantastic

There is some info here on what to do if you find a hedgehog needing
help, including a phone number to find a nearby rescue.
