My work place is toxic

Currently having an awful week and so thankful for the weekend. So many things feel
like they’ve gone wrong at work and I need a space to rant. I’m also in the process of trying and failing to find a new therapist. Which is exhausting.

firstly, thank you cards were given out by the director of the company who I see everyday, and I often have a chat with or have a laugh with. But yet I’ve been overlooked on two occasions. The thing that upsets me about this is that I meet and exceed my targets as much as possible. I’m very competitive, I like to be the best at everything I do and I always put my all into it. I recently led a conference in the local area too and took the initiative to do this.

However, my issue is, I’ve been overlooked twice when these cards are given out and left on desks near to mine for people who contribute nothing or do nothing. Which makes very little sense to me, it seems like it’s just promoting a toxic culture of people being in the directors “good books”. I too like to feel like I’ve done a good job sometimes or praised for my efforts. I know I shouldn’t care about it because it’s just a system and im
replaceable but it does hurt. I feel it’s due to wanting to keep certain members of staff who are not ambitious or looking for progression.

Another thing that upset me was someone at work confided in me telling me they’d been told to sit away from the “professional” staff and because they’re not qualified staff they can’t sit at the same table, and that they need to move quicker when doing tasks (they have a mobility issue). The person who said this is only in mid management too. I’m planning to leave this place but some of these things have really upset me. I wouldn’t dream of segregating people or not thanking my team.

Our boss started ‘Staff member of the week’ when she first arrived. I haven’t won it in 4 years, despite just getting on with my job well, doing extras that many don’t etc. She can get to fuck with her cheap bottles of white wine.
