Everything feels like a chore

Anyone else ? Work, home life etc just feels like a chore and something to get through and not enjoy

Yes!
I hate cleaning my house over and over, hate shopping/cooking/clearing up. I can see why elderly people go out for a big cooked lunch, then have a sandwich in the evening.

I swing from being on top of it all and feeling accomplished to being totally overwhelmed and feeling like its all bloody work on an almost daily basis right now. Trying to juggle a tween, a teen a cat, a full time job and a dh who travels lots for work. Not to mention all the bloody hobbies. This morning it all feels like work. The house needs cleaning, there's laundry everywhere and I have 4 sets of exams to mark before Monday. What I want to so is crawl back into bed and hide....only dh is still snoring in the bed so that would annoy me.

What's getting you down op?

AntoniaMcMac · 12/10/2024 08:02

I just don't think I have much resilience lol

Does something need to change to help you enjoy it all a bit more? Which thing do you dislike the most, work? home chores? cooking?

I have taken a huge step back from planning meals and have taken to asking dh what's for dinner tonight so he has to think about it and cook it. If often results on odd meals but I'm sick of being in charge of crap like that. If anyone asks me I say "I don't know, what have you bought?". They are getting the message.

I think we all feel like this - no one likes cleaning (maybe a sadist!). For me it’s about rewards interspersed between the jobs.

So I have just re cleaned the kitchen and rebooted the washing machine/dryer and now am back in bed with a cappuccino and Mumsnet.

At 8.30 I have to get up again and put away 2 baskets of laundry in my bedroom - I will put on a YouTube video whilst doing this or put on a schmaltzy film.

Then get ready to take DD2 to football at 9.30am - I loathe these early morning football mornings as have a brutal work schedule in the week so really feel peeved that I’m missing a slow morning. So when I drop her off, I will have a wander round the local high st/pick up some bits/grab a coffee and get back in time for the 2nd half (also reduces small talk time which I hate with a passion!!). She’s still happy I watched her but I don’t have to stand in the cold for 2 hours making small talk.

So find your joy amongst the mundane.

Do you work full time?
It's so hard working, parenting and doing all the chores.
I only get through because I work part time.

Baneofmyexistence · 12/10/2024 08:27

Yep I’m currently hiding in bed to avoid facing the day 😩 It’s just all a slog, I’m so tired!

AntoniaMcMac · 12/10/2024 08:29

I do 4 days with a longish commute. I tried to make a birthday cake last night that all went wrong so went to bed crying.

That sounds sad op.
4 days with a long commute is tough. Sorry the cake went wrong. Any way to salvage it? Or enough time to do another?

AntoniaMcMac · 12/10/2024 08:35

No I'd planned the frigging cake for weeks then it looked shit and was burnt and lopsided. I'm going to buy one. It's for my son. I'm struggling with him growing up.

I feel like this sometimes and I don't even have kids.

The constant laundry and washing dishes (I like to cook meals) is a pain, and when I'm not feeling 100%, like right now where I have bloody tonsillitis, it feels very overwhelming.

AntoniaMcMac · 12/10/2024 11:54

I'm so overwhelmed
