How long does it take for ear piercing to heal fully?
Just a normal lobe one

DD has hers done in a piercing studio with a needle and they advised 8 weeks on average.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 11/10/2024 18:58

Personally mine take about two years (not joking). I think 6-12 weeks is more usual.

6-8 weeks. We have been advised that if earrings need removing after 6 weeks (eg for sports) then it’s possible to put silicon retainers in instead while healing fully completes.

purpleme12 · 11/10/2024 19:01

It's been 11 and a half weeks.
They're definitely not healed.
I don't think there's anything wrong with them.
It's a bit purple around where it's been pierced and a bit sore to put the earring in (she's only done it a couple of times as it's still healing) and one in particular bleeds ever at slightly if it's knocked or something.
Just wondered when they'd be healed properly

DD's took 13 months to heal. Most are quicker but just bear in mind that it will heal when it wants! I would suggest going for titanium posts from the start.

She's already had it done

But thanks that's interesting that yours took that long!

Third lobes took over six months to heal - they only healed properly when I put in gold earrings

Did you mean to put third or was it a typo?

Mine took an absolute age.
I think the stud was a little too tight as well which didn't help.
I used leucellin to clean with and it really helped when I had a slightly pus to one lobe after changing the studs and opening the wound again.

UmbrellaEllaEllaElla · 11/10/2024 19:26

6-8 weeks for a lobe.

purpleme12 · 11/10/2024 19:28

We're already past that

With my daughter it was about 3 months

Jifmicroliquid · 11/10/2024 19:38

Allow up to around 3 months for a lobe. Swap to titanium earrings if it’s not settling.

Sodabubbles · 11/10/2024 19:39

About a year for DD! ( first lobes done with needle) I asked the piercer for some advice after it had been months and months; and she said try to dry hair every time after washing. DD always used to leave hair wet and it did make a difference as soon as she kept the area drier. Would that be relavent in your case?

Roundthemoon · 11/10/2024 19:40

It sometimes makes you think:

Why do we do this to ourselves?

Why do we pierce a big hole right through a sensitive part of our body, and think it's normal?

YourFunMember · 11/10/2024 19:41

i’m a piercist. 4-6 months. Claire’s sell a lie.

Roundthemoon · 11/10/2024 19:41

I pierced my ears ages ago, but they were so painful, I took out the earrings and just let them close up. They still have the mark of the piercing

Ok interesting perhaps I should get those?

Claire's do make piercing seem like it's just as quick as buying a hairbrush. Oh its over in five minutes!

but piercing is a serious thing that takes a long while to heal from

Interesting, a year

She doesn't dry her hair after a shower really.
Although she often ties it up after

Edited

It wasn't done at Claire's mind

But I do get the impression from people in general that people's ears heal faster than this!

Mine got hers pierced on 8 August. She took the studs out after 6 weeks to try different ones and they both bled and hurt.
She's got the invisible school-approved ones in now and she's just going to leave them alone for a while longer.
She sprays NeilMed on them.
