How long does it take for ear piercing to heal fully?
Just a normal lobe one

It's been 11 and a half weeks.
They're definitely not healed.
I don't think there's anything wrong with them.
It's a bit purple around where it's been pierced and a bit sore to put the earring in (she's only done it a couple of times as it's still healing) and one in particular bleeds ever at slightly if it's knocked or something.
Just wondered when they'd be healed properly

If they've been removed and put back in then I would probably restart the clock on the healing.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 11/10/2024 19:46

DD’s took ages. She has thick curly hair and strands kept getting stuck then the earring started going into the hole. They got better after spraying them with the stuff from Amazon.

YourFunMember · 11/10/2024 19:46

Clearly you’ve not been given any clear aftercare which leads me to believe your DD was pierced by Claire’s or similar.

of note:
I only use implant grade titanium for all initial piercings, internally threaded.
cleaning is twice a day, either with neilmed sterile saline or with a thorough rinse in the shower with fresh running water
always dry the piercing afterwards, if using a hairdryer make sure the filter is clean or use kitchen roll
try not to sleep on them
check up at 6 weeks and post downsize
and leave it the hell alone. No touching, removing etc.
nutrition is always important to heal well and quickly.
removing piercings, playing with them etc can damage the healing fistula and delay the process.

4-6 months is a guide. Some are quicker, some longer. My DD was closer to 4 months. I’m always longer, more like 6-8 months.

Edited

As already stated, it wasn't done at Claire's

She already does it twice a day with neilmed

She hasn't been twisting them or anything

As stated, I'm confident that there's nothing wrong with the ear/piercing, just like like I said it's not fully healed and I was just wondering how long it took cos people tend to give the impression it's healed by now

@purpleme12
Third lobes as in I already had two in each and this is quite a high piercing but not cartilage

Claires did my daughters, they said to keep the originals in for 6 weeks and clean daily then to give it at least 6 months until she could leave them out for a few hours, ie overnight.

Ok interesting perhaps I should get those?

Whenever I have a piercing that won’t cooperate, titanium piercings sort it out.
I have 8 piercings so I’ve been through it a lot!

LivelyHare · 11/10/2024 20:13

Another vote here for gold earrings. It really does speed up healing.

Also (no offense!) but how plump are her earlobes? If she is wearing children’s earrings the posts may not be long enough.

It sometimes makes you think:

Why do we do this to ourselves?

Why do we pierce a big hole right through a sensitive part of our body, and think it's normal?

No idea but humans have been doing so for hundreds of thousands of years!

Lol no offence taken but they're definitely not plump 😂

I'm laughing at the thought of you trying to imagine where my third ear was

My right ear lobe refuses to believe I would like to use it for earrings. Tomorrow is my second trip back to the piercer to have it opened up again! My body clearly thinks it’s a wound and should be dealt with. The left has always been fine and just as I expected it to behave (It’s six years since I had them done).

It is a wound.

My dad used to say to me "I can't understand why people damage their ears by cutting their ears all the way through'

ChoccyJules · 11/10/2024 21:01

I know but I followed everything to the letter re. aftercare and expected them to behave like most other people’s - permanent holes for jewellery!

WonderingWanda · 11/10/2024 21:04

Dd's took 2 years and only healed once we began using plastic earrings. She was allergic to everything we tried...titanium, steel, gold etc. Had it done properly with a needle and everything.

purpleme12 · 11/10/2024 21:05

(it was done with a needle, not a gun)

My helix took 3 years to heal and only healed properly when I switched from gold to titanium. I already had a titanium post but it had a gold end. I switched to a titanium end and it settled although it doesn't make any sense to me as the same post is in piercing!

aSpanielintheworks · 11/10/2024 21:09

Had my first lobes done as a child but my seconds took 7 months and my thirds are still healing after being done beginning of July.
They are still tender if they get knocked and bleed sometimes after a shower.
No infection or swelling, I'm guessing they just need time.
6 weeks is laughable.

My helix piercing was an absolute pain. A bit like yours, it was the end of the piercing that seemed to cause the problem rather than the post. The end would be full of blood and gunk constantly. I think because it was quite swollen, the ear swelled and the end would be so close to the actual ear it dug in a bit.
I was reluctant to change the original piercing because it was so swollen and gross (I wasn’t sure I’d get another one in!) but in the end I managed to get a titanium one through and within 3 days it was so much better.

Ormally · 11/10/2024 21:14

Around 3 months so far. One is doing well, the other is not - difficulties with still bleeding and difficult to get the post through to find the hole at the back. Not trying to have the holes without an earring in them for any length of time. Still cleaning things carefully.

TellerTuesday · 11/10/2024 21:19

Did she have them done with a gun? DD's first were with a gun and took at least 18 months to fully heal, they were an absolute nightmare. Second set done with a needle and were healed in 6 weeks. The second set also go in like a dream when they've been out a while whereas the first set are harder to get back in despite being pierced 5 years longer.

Itsmeamandaberry · 11/10/2024 21:21

Best advice I was given was when I could change them, change to hoops as they heal faster with hoops apparently and it worked for me.
