How long does it take for ear piercing to heal fully?
Just a normal lobe one

I know but I followed everything to the letter re. aftercare and expected them to behave like most other people’s - permanent holes for jewellery!

I think a lot of people have problems with piercings though.

We are sold by the companies the dream that piercings are quick easy and normal.

When the reality is

a piercing is a serious wound. It's an injury

I had to take my earrings out altogether as my piercings never fully healed. They were always painful.

The Same with my cousin, her ears were constantly swollen until she had to take her earrings out altogether.

Just because we are told it's normal, doesn't mean that slicing all the way through our ear is normal.

I only occasionally use clip on silver ear rings now. They look great.

Did she have them done with a gun? DD's first were with a gun and took at least 18 months to fully heal, they were an absolute nightmare. Second set done with a needle and were healed in 6 weeks. The second set also go in like a dream when they've been out a while whereas the first set are harder to get back in despite being pierced 5 years longer.

A needle

Mine took 3-4 weeks to heal totally, titanium bars done with a needle.

@Roundthemoon You have some trauma from your body rejecting your earrings, stop projecting it onto everyone else!

Op I've got 11 piercings, I had my seconds and thirds (lobes) done with needles and they have been an absolute nightmare, had them done two years ago and one of them especially just will not heal, one of them came out in the night and by the morning when I noticed it it wouldn't go back in.
So I popped into Clare's (gasp) and had it redone with a gun and it's been perfect, no tenderness nothing.

I also got my second nose piercing at Clare's. That's healed really well. All my others have been done with needles and have healed really well. Not sure why my lobes won't heal.

Keep them dry and give it time, we're all different

I don't have any trauma at all.

And I was replying to someone else, who said that their piercing didn't heal, if you go back and read. It's not just me on this thread who said that their piercing didn't heal. Many people have said it.

What I do have a problem with" is Claires and other shops - advertising piercings like they're extremely easy

When it actually leaves people in pain, and leaking pus and blood for months , up to a year

OfDragonsDeep · 11/10/2024 22:07

6 months easily. They may appear healed at 6-8 weeks for some people, but they aren’t on the inside.

Stick with internally threaded implant grade titanium with flat backs, Neilmed spray and dry with clean lint free cloth. Don’t touch, twist etc.

They will get there in the end!

Jifmicroliquid · 11/10/2024 22:21

Good point that someone has raised about not twisting them.

When I was a teenager and had my first ones done, the advice was to ‘twist’ every day. Nowadays the advice is to leave well alone. You can also buy a saline salt solution to spray on. Pretty cheap from places like Amazon. Just spray once a day and leave alone.

purpleme12 · 11/10/2024 22:27

We've got Neilmed spray

And no she hasn't been twisting them or anything
