Who doesn’t love a wacky house thread?

Just saw this one in The Times property section and had to look up the RM listing. Check out the toilet (picture 19)

From the times article: “In one of the bathrooms an antique wooden chair conceals a lavatory, which is flushed by lifting an enamel jug-cum-handle, perched on the blood-red cabinetry. ”

Imagine cleaning that thing!😖

Oh I love it! Maybe not so much the toilet but everything else! Those bed nooks look so cosy.

worthofbostworlds · 11/10/2024 12:09

Love it!

Only thing I'm a bit dubious about is the toilet, for hygiene reasons, and I'm not usually that bothered by things like that.

But the rest of it - LOVE! Smile

I can imagine Giles and Mary from Gogglebox living here 😁

I love it so much!

PennyFarthingRider · 11/10/2024 12:16

That's not 'wacky', it's rather lovely, like Vanessa Bell's Charleston, all frescoes and pattern. Agree on the loo, but otherwise it's gorgeous. The garden is beautiful. Though is that a very busy road right in front?

Elderberrier · 11/10/2024 12:16

Oh my god I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. That is like my dream home. I hope no one who thinks it’s ‘wacky’ buys it and clears it - if I bought it I’d be worrying about how to afford all the gorgeous bed spreads and items that they would take away with them! Maybe I’d be replacing the loo but that’s it, it’s beautiful.

Moppet5 · 11/10/2024 12:17

Wow, what a house, love it! Would cost millions where I am. The toilet surround would have to go!

Elderberrier · 11/10/2024 12:17

Oh I’ve just read that you wrote ‘cleaning’ not ‘clearing’ as I first thought!! I’ll stand down.

SirChenjins · 11/10/2024 12:20

I love that! I hope whoever buys it preserves its wacky beauty and doesn’t neutralise it. I also hope that the owners don’t mind it being commented on across SM and in the DM - I really hate the guffawing and sneering at people’s homes.

T4phage · 11/10/2024 12:20

I would think it needs a lot of work doing to it, rewiring etc. could be a money pit. Interesting interior though. Makes a pleasant change from the acres of identikit white, black and grey that still seems to be everywhere.

REP22 · 11/10/2024 12:21

Love it. Not so enamoured of a cum-handle though.

Jaxhog · 11/10/2024 12:21

Love it!

JennyForeigner · 11/10/2024 12:24

I love it! ❤️ The stencilling! The dragon on the beams is fabulous. 100% would live there, 100% would employ the owner to stencil my house similarly.

BourbonsAreOverated · 11/10/2024 12:24

Another vote for Love it

LBOCS2 · 11/10/2024 12:27

I love it. I would buy that house for the floors alone.

Pleaselettheholidayend · 11/10/2024 12:29

I would move into that house tomorrow

Namechangeforadhd · 11/10/2024 12:29

What a gorgeous house. Love it!

WitchyBits · 11/10/2024 12:30

Oh I love this house!! I can't stand grey, miserable, personality free houses.

Tiredandneedtogotobed · 11/10/2024 12:32

Chatbotsarerubbish · 11/10/2024 12:11

I can imagine Giles and Mary from Gogglebox living here 😁

Ha! Thought exactly the same! 😂😂

commonground · 11/10/2024 12:33

Omg, dream house! They deffo took inspiration from Charleston. Those beds in the eaves* are just darling (I feel like that is a word to describe this house!)

I mean, the outside looks like it's dripping damp and the walls are giving a kind of 'sodden' feel, but it's really fab.

*edited to add - I mean the box built-in beds - actually not in the eaves on closer look

redtrain123 · 11/10/2024 12:33

Love, love, love

(but dh would hate it)

henlake7 · 11/10/2024 12:35

Its gorgeous, isnt it? So nice to see something not a boring beige or grey.
I would 100% want to live there (I could even live with the toilet 'throne'.....looks comfy!!LOL).
Interesting how you have to go through a bathroom to reach one of the bedrooms though!
I bet it is a bugger to heat in the winter.

Happyearlyretirement · 11/10/2024 12:49

Love it, so individual. It’s great to see people choosing what they like and not the mass produced rubbish we are told to like.

FKAT · 11/10/2024 12:51

Not my taste at all but love it.

We should all have the courage of our convictions when it comes to interior decor and sod what anyone else thinks (house exteriors on the other hand, we should be more conventional and traditional).

Echobelly · 11/10/2024 12:54

I think it's lovely. Beautiful, tasteful but interesting decor, not stuck to 'trends', it's fabulous.
