Minimalist hand luggage

Does anyone just go mega minimal with their hand luggage on a flight?
I’ve got hold luggage booked so really I don’t see anything wrong with taking a very small bag on the plane, headphones, phone, book, passport. Feels weirdly like I’m underprepared but maybe it’s because I’m used to taking at least a rucksack with me on the plane! It’s only a short 4 hour flight, it’s fine isn’t it?
Have we just all got so used to cramming in as much as we are allowed to take on the flight with us? I usually do book hold luggage but still also take a rucksack with me, I’m just not sure if I’m missing something really obvious that I will definitely need!

Pre children I would take phone, kindle, maybe headphone, purse, passport and sun glasses and a pair of socks.

Now I have young kids my hand luggage feele to be similiar size to the hold luggage. And they have a cuddly toy too.

If I have a hold bag then yes my cabin baggage is just my normal handbag. Keys, purse, book, phone and headphones, passport. What else is there?

Ahh this is great, good to hear!
I know, I don’t think i’m going to need anything else - I could fill a bag with stuff of course but I just don’t want to be weighed down with unnecessary stuff, the joy of having stuff in the hold is that if frees you up.

I used to pack minimally until a friend's case didn't turn up on holiday. Now in our hand luggage (especially for the kids) I pack a change of clothes and a few pairs of underwear, just in case. At least so there's one outfit to change into if our bags are delayed.

TeamPlaying · 11/10/2024 07:53

I always take a change of clothes, and swimsuit if it’s a pool holiday. Experienced lost luggage too many times! And snacks in case of delay.

Yes, I am an over-preparer and an over-packer!

I always take a clean t shirt and underwear in my hand luggage after having my suitcase arrive two days after I did.

Yeah fair enough to pack a change of clothes but I’m a risk taker 😂
There are a couple of shops over the road from where we’re going so worst case scenario we could just pick stuff up from there.
Okay I think I’ll be good to go with my little bag, not travelling with kids, just myself to worry about. Dh can worry about himself!
