Help getting a fire to work please - I'm so cold!

Hi,

Just moved house. Can't work out the fire in the lounge at all. I presume it's gas but...?! I've tried Googling, Google Lens and just emailed the manufacturer. Wondered of anyone on MN has a similar one and knows how to work them please?

The little switch flicks up or down (or neutral in the middle). I'd tried it but nothing happens.

Thank you

There may be a controller and an ignition switch. Can you post a picture?

Anonymouse2019 · 10/10/2024 20:19

Pics!

Might it have been disconnected from the gas supply?

This is the manual. Looks like there should be a remote.

It's possible, but I've found the manual online by Googling the serial number and apparently it needs a remote control - the previous owners didn't leave one. Now on a mission to see if I can buy a replacement and if I do, whether it'll work/how to configure.

Yes googling suggests it has a separate controller,

CoffeeBeansGalore · 10/10/2024 20:29

Ok, daft question. You have the "flick" switch in the down position which looks correct. Have you then tried pushing in that silver button & holding it in? (may click as you hold it in). If it flames into life, keep holding it down for approx 3 seconds then let go.

can you find the gas supply pipe and see if there is a shut off valve? Also is the gas coming from a tank or bottle that might be empty, or is it piped from the street..in which case are you current on the bill ie has the supply been shut off.

Octavia64 · 10/10/2024 20:31

I have one.

It needs a remote control

Anonymouse2019 · 10/10/2024 20:42

@CoffeeBeansGalore not a daft question - that's the first thing I tried but sadly it doesn't work. I suspect the button thing on the left is an ignition but there's no sparking or sound which makes me wonder if it's even connected to the gas supply, or electricity for an ignition?

There's no gas bottle or cannister that I can tell so it would be mains gas. Our supply has not been cut off.

I'd have to look up what a supply pipe and shut-off valve look like but I won't be touching anything to do with the has supply. I'd get a Gas Safe registered plumber to deal with that side of things. Meanwhile I've found there's a dealers 10 minutes away from where we live so I'll ring them or go over tomorrow and see what I can find out.

Thank you everyone for helping me look online etc and for the advice and tips too. I'll report back when I know more.

Maybe these instructions will help? From the manual for the Oasis fire. See attached and good luck

Is it definitely plugged/wired in or does it need a new battery?

Riverswims · 10/10/2024 21:00

Sorry OP but I saw the thread title and was genuinely thinking of you dragging a fireplace into an office- work- and imagining the thread detailing the logistics of this. I hope you're warm now

Haribosweets · 10/10/2024 22:33

I also read it that you wanted to take a fire to work! (Office)
