Yesterday someone stone my phone from me, but luckily it’s insured. I have never needed to claim on insurance before for anything, and would really appreciate hearing about your experiences if you ever had to claim.
My home insurer’s policy documents are not super clear, though my claims handler seems quite nice. She was saying that they will check if my phone model is still on sale, and if so give me the money to buy it. If it’s not on sale, they’ll look at an equivalent model and give me the money for that.
I found this a bit confusing because just say (these are all fake figures) my phone cost £500 when I purchased it, it was discontinued a few years ago, and it’s only available second hand/refurbished for £100. Is it acceptable for that £100 to be their remedy? Or would they use the current version as the comparator?
Also generally how long may it take for my claim to be paid out? So far, I have followed all instructions including police report, blocking the phone/number with the network and providing proof of purchase.
