Although of course MC is a game for all seasons, I do have especially fond memories of an October championships in Wales and extracurricular… fun amid the greenery of a National Trust garden.

If I've missed anyone I do apologise; do round up any players you happen to see or hear of.

And I'll start with a lovely little move that the Reverend taught me.
Finsbury Park

I believe an appropriate move in this situation is Paddington as reference in the most recent digest

LlynTegid · 15/02/2025 09:45

Neasden used to be so quiet and no chance of anything hedonistic at all. Which is why it was chosen as the venue for one of the early tournaments for the game of games, in I think 1921. Won by an ancestor of the Major, whose son never let anyone forget as appropriate soirees for many years.

Latimer Road

TragicMuse · 15/02/2025 12:26

Oh goodness, the Major's son could be a crashing bore...

Gloucester Road.

Reminds me of the great grandmother who lived near there.

MyrtleStrumpet · 15/02/2025 14:37

He never let up! Drone, drone, drone... On and on.

Fortunately he never goes south of the river.

Southfields

LlynTegid · 16/02/2025 07:17

There was allegedly an occasion when the son of the Major did get lost and end up south of the river. So long ago he was seeking to find a venue where these people called The Beatles were apparently visiting.

Short move time again- Wimbledon Park.

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 16/02/2025 10:48

Ah, The Beatles. Whatever happened to them?

Morden

TragicMuse · 19/02/2025 07:40

They were a popular beat combo I gather...(this is shades of 'who is Gazza?'!!)

i fancy a stroll among green. edeh krap renroc.

or Hyde Park Corner.

LlynTegid · 21/02/2025 16:58

Interesting use of the tram rule two moves ago.

Barons Court

TragicMuse · 01/03/2025 18:46

I see we all ran into a shunt, I'll move us along...

Hampstead

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 01/03/2025 19:17

Thank you for that, TragicMuse. We did seem to be stuck in a loop shunt, just when the new month should have brought fresh energy to the game. In that spirit:

Clapham Common

HazelBite · 01/03/2025 22:09

I'm going north Cockfosters,!

TragicMuse · 02/03/2025 13:18

Ah. The man (in the general sense) who is tired of Cockfosters is tired of life...

I shall take us to St Paul's for our Sunday observance.

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 02/03/2025 14:58

And so inexorably to

Temple

HazelBite · 04/03/2025 18:59

I will edge along a little and just go to Embankment

LlynTegid · 04/03/2025 19:59

I will continue the short moves and go to St James's Park.

TragicMuse · 04/03/2025 22:38

I think an Eddings stride is permissible? I've not seen one in play for the requisite 30 miles radius...

Hainault

HazelBite · 05/03/2025 09:51

That's a very bold move! Continuing with the Eddings stride I think I can go to Amersham ?

LlynTegid · 05/03/2025 13:00

I was tempted to play by the 1960 compendium rules but did not want to cause an incident.

Chorleywood.

HazelBite · 06/03/2025 05:38

After consulting the Cryer Conpendium to the Rules I'm taking a short journey to Watford

TragicMuse · 08/03/2025 09:28

Oh very neat!

Simple but effective for me...

Swiss Cottage

LlynTegid · 08/03/2025 18:30

I think Baker Street can be a move, as it was not the opening one of this game, which under the 1960 compendium rules would put you in Nidd.

Seaside1234 · 08/03/2025 22:10

Goodness, it's nice to be back. The cruise was enjoyable but the efforts of the Dowager Duchess to butter up the captain were too much to witness for long.

An extended reverse to Hatton Cross

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 12/03/2025 12:18

Oh, you were on that cruise, Seaside1234? The rumour that the Dowager Duchess had cried “hello sailor” a little more than could be considered seemly had reached even me, in sleepy

Debden

MarkWithaC · 12/03/2025 13:10

I feel very abashed, sauntering back in having been away for so long, but gosh, I was missing the game of games and of course all you splendid players. I hope and trust everybody is in good form? All I shall say (indeed, all I can say) about my absence is that Singapore isn't what it used to be, although the Brigadier very much is, particularly after a couple of gin and its.
I feel very much as though I'm muscling in, but may I throw to myself on your mercy, invoke the diplomatic absence wild card subclause, and say, Finsbury Park?

The Victoria line is useful at this point and gave so many new opportunities for the game of games when it opened.
