Although of course MC is a game for all seasons, I do have especially fond memories of an October championships in Wales and extracurricular… fun amid the greenery of a National Trust garden.

If I've missed anyone I do apologise; do round up any players you happen to see or hear of.

And I'll start with a lovely little move that the Reverend taught me.
Finsbury Park

Always worth a try @HazelBite - especially with such a deft move as that!

I spent some happy hours jaunting along the Elizabeth Line yesterday. I once stepped out with a junior under-butler at Sandringham and am reliably informed that Her Majesty was fond of a round of the game of games. Quite the demon player, as it was told to me...

It is but a short walk to Buck House from Hyde Park Corner

MyrtleStrumpet · 03/12/2024 13:13

Tue junior under-butlers at HMPalace Buckingham have always been very lovely lads. 3 believe the Duke of York had a hand in their training.

This reminds me of the 2012 Olympics so we're off to Stratford.

MarkWithaC · 03/12/2024 16:06

They tend not to have the vigour of the groundskeepers' apprentices though.
Or so I'm told.

Hmm. This is all becoming very Upstairs, Downstairs.

Cockfosters

MyrtleStrumpet · 03/12/2024 19:47

I feel a visit to church is necessary.

St Paul's

HazelBite · 03/12/2024 00:29

An upper cut Mason would give me access to Overground. ( I Don't know if it is a very wise move at this juncture) but it's worth a try *White Hart Lane"

I am not sure if the Grand Council has met to discuss this renaming of the London Overground lines. White Hart Lane is not part of them, not even the Weaver Line. I don't have the authority over this, and have not read the Standing Orders.

That said, we are at St Paul's in this game.

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 03/12/2024 20:44

The Grand Council is notoriously slow to catch on, sometimes. I'm dodging the controversy by moving to

Harold Wood

Is there something about my moves that you like LlynTegid?

Did you mean to move to St Paul's or were you stating that we were at St Paul's because I had just posted that we were at St Paul's.

Is it a repeat move? <consults the Azerbaijan Almanac>, or a restatement? <consults the Germanic Guidance, always a difficult read>

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 03/12/2024 22:40

Oh dear. I had hoped my swift move to Harold Wood would distract Myrtle from the repetition (or was it?) of St Paul's, but I guess it doesn't hurt to have twice the opportunity for spiritual reflection (if indeed we did). In any event, it is a comfort to return south of the river.

Something strange has happened, typographically, Do excuse me.

I am in Nidd, so cannot move, am placemaking for when my spell in Nidd ends!

I was stating we are at St Paul's. Or were, to be correct now.

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 05/12/2024 13:21

But Myrtle sprang you from Nidd on Friday, LlynTegid (although I quite understand that you may want some time to plan your next move).

I'm just been reading the MC Gazette's entertaining and informative article on the extended Hopkirk so, feeling inspired, I'm going to play one to

Goodge Street

Seaside1234 · 05/12/2024 15:16

Ooh, lovely, nice to see the MC Gazette being put to good use.

Since it's Thursday, that sets up an easy move to Arnos Grove

MyrtleStrumpet · 05/12/2024 22:41

How could I forget it was Thursday?

Very elegant move.

Allows me to slide along to Aldgate East.

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 05/12/2024 23:25

Taking the A train (see what I did there?) to

Amersham

LlynTegid · 06/12/2024 08:15

Thank you @GertrudeJekyllAndHyde for advising me I am not in Nidd.

Chalfont and Latimer.

Boredmum24 · 06/12/2024 12:05

A hatcher twist to Southgate

TragicMuse · 06/12/2024 14:14

Honestly, I look away for one minute...

There's nothing for it, and it pains me to have to do this. But really.

Bermondsey. And I'll say no more about it.

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 06/12/2024 18:13

Indeed, TragicMuse. The quickness of the hand deceives the eye, so it's right and proper that we should now go to

Finsbury Park

MyrtleStrumpet · 07/12/2024 12:30

I have been away.

With my dearest old friend, the Contessa.

As we sipped sherry and reminisced over games long past, she reminded me of a move introduced during the 17th century. Once a favourite (though quite tricky) tactic seen frequently, it fell out of fashion in the early days of the millennium.

But it is so lovely I thought I might play it here. It's obviously the triple salchow propulsion to Upney.

MrsSkylerWhite · 07/12/2024 12:34

New to this.

To Theydon Bois, perhaps? Or is that a dreadful faux pas?

MyrtleStrumpet · 07/12/2024 13:13

Oh, that's a very nice move.

Welcome! There are at least 47 volumes of the Official Rules, but there are also numerous concordats and agreements to keep up with. I recommend a subscription to the compendium which will send paper inserts when the rules are updated. And perhaps to the Council minutes where the reasonings behind any changes or contexts are given. And don't forget the monthly magazine which has all the gossip. The readers' letters are enlightening.

I will scoot along to Caledonian Road.

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 07/12/2024 16:48

Delighted to meet you, MrsSkylerWhite, and to see you again, Myrtle. (Were you visiting the contessa in the clinic, by the way, or has she been released?)

I enjoyed the recent articles in the Annals of MC about the 17th century game, but suspect it must have been a terrible bore because there was little to do beyond shuttling between Upney, Bow Street and

Tower Hill

Seaside1234 · 07/12/2024 18:13

Welcome to the game, @MrsSkylerWhite ! Neat move.

Ryder's 3rd to High Street Kensington

LlynTegid · 07/12/2024 18:39

Welcome, as I move to Notting Hill Gate.
