Although of course MC is a game for all seasons, I do have especially fond memories of an October championships in Wales and extracurricular… fun amid the greenery of a National Trust garden.

If I've missed anyone I do apologise; do round up any players you happen to see or hear of.

And I'll start with a lovely little move that the Reverend taught me.

Fair enough. I do hope the evening had a happy ending.

I shall saunter along to Loughton.

MarkWithaC · 26/11/2024 11:40

I was in Marrakech for the Council last time round. Mainly I felt sorry for the goat.

How unseemly. And speaking of unseemly, we're long overdue a move to

Warren Street

Boredmum24 · 26/11/2024 14:51

Restoring a bit of decorum with a move to monument

MyrtleStrumpet · 26/11/2024 14:56

A direct clockwise trundle to Westminster

LlynTegid · 26/11/2024 20:24

I think we can move to Baron's Court with relative ease. I've absented myself from the Council for a number of years after objecting to some inferior version of the game of games was proposed, only within the original Circle line boundaries. Even though the idea was defeated, and hopefully is never resurrected.

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 26/11/2024 21:32

Nicely done, LlynTegid. Let's advance to

Richmond

MyrtleStrumpet · 26/11/2024 22:31

Heading to the very far reaches of Heathrow Terminal 5.

As you said LlynTegid, it would be a very inferior game if the Council had agreed the "speed version".

Seaside1234 · 27/11/2024 09:24

BA switchback to Heathrow Terminals 2&3.

Although there's something to be said for the speed version if the Major's managed to wheedle his way into the game.

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 27/11/2024 11:53

Very nifty, Seaside1234.

I can no longer resist the sirens' call to

Fairlop

MyrtleStrumpet · 27/11/2024 12:05

I tend to agree Seaside1234. Whatever happened to that motion at the July 2001 Council meeting to block the Major from playing? Wasn't there an attempt to put him permanently in Nidd?

I'm off to Seven Sisters.

Boredmum24 · 27/11/2024 13:04

I believe the major and the vice consul were old school friends which may explain a few things. Russell square.

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 27/11/2024 13:53

Back to Russell Square so soon? I hope Myrtle (who played it last) doesn't take offence. You know how she can be - after that contretemps in Abergavenny she's been so sensitive.

Dagenham Heathway

MyrtleStrumpet · 27/11/2024 14:03

<fuming>

Is this actually allowed?! Or are we playing the free and easy Istanbul version? It should have been pointed out if we were.

And what happened in Abergavenny was a provocation. Anyone would have upended the table and thrown the pieces on the floor and stamped on them and ground them into dust after the Monsignor's disgusting inference about me. I am not a cheater, either in the game or in the rest of my life, and for those who want to talk about Ross Geller, we were on a break.

Let's not bring all that up again. In fact, let's get out of the East End altogether and move to somewhere far more salubrious.

Holland Park

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 27/11/2024 14:40

Oh dear, Myrtle. I'm so sorry that this has stirred up such painful, traumatic memories. It's been a while since we saw the Monsignor on the MC circuit and we all know better than to enquire.

As for returning to previously played stations; as part of my induction, I was told it was not allowed - and indeed there was a frisson when the principal trombonist tried it at Weston-super-Mare in '54 - but times have changed and I sense that most players of the game of games are now relaxed, indeed laissez-faire, about it.
^
Let us maintain this salubrious tone at

Bond Street^

MyrtleStrumpet · 27/11/2024 15:53

It was indeed stated at my induction also that we do not return to previous stations or we could be here in a never ending loop exactly the Circle Line and that just would not do.

Are we going to have to resort to listing ALL the stations payed in the game so far in every missive (so time consuming)?

I'll let it go this once and all the other times in the previous game.

Now we can move on to Chalfont and Latimer.

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 27/11/2024 18:54

I think, dearest Myrtle, that (in the words of a ditty from one of Mr Disney's talking pictures) we must let it go, recognising that newbies (ie those who've joined the MC circuit since 1954) might not have received the excellent induction training from which we undoubtedly benefitted. We must therefore be generous.

Hainault

MyrtleStrumpet · 27/11/2024 19:36

You are kinder than I am, Gertrude, and I bow to your generosity of spirit. They haven't suffered the way I have. They haven't experienced the agonies of tedium at such insignificant venues as Middlesbrough in 1971 or Warrington in 1986 that were necessary for ranking purposes before the free for all that happened in the 90s.

I am impressed that you have the patience.

But not impressed that you drag us eastward again.

Goodge Street

LlynTegid · 27/11/2024 20:33

I think we must begin to look west and Holland Park is where I move.

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 27/11/2024 20:45

Holland Park? What a provocation to poor, dear Myrtle! All I can say now is "Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night".

Osterley

MyrtleStrumpet · 27/11/2024 21:03

Holland Park!!! Is this just copying my marvellous moves? It's just a little further up the page, for heavens' sake.

I fear we are entering a loop.

Bless you, Gertrude for trying to rescue the situation, but this has gone too far!

Can I put Llyn Tegid in Nidd?

For the rest of the game?!

Grudgingly, Greenford.

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 27/11/2024 22:13

Oh dear, Myrtle. Would you like a glass of the under-gardener's home-brewed herbal tincture? It's 80 degree proof very good for the nerves.

Ickenham

Seaside1234 · 28/11/2024 18:00

My, what a night I missed there. I hope I don't rustle any feathers with Covent Garden.

MyrtleStrumpet · 28/11/2024 18:17

Thank you, Gertrude. That herbal tincture settled my nerves so well I found myself under a hedge this morning after I wandered outside to admire the herb beds.

Much more refreshed now.

Heading north on the Northern Line to Totteridge and Whetstone.

Boredmum24 · 28/11/2024 18:17

I do believe that Southgate would be appropriate in the circumstances
