For those of us old enough to remember this radio station, it’s back and available on an app.
Playing 80’s, 90’s and 00’s. It’s a blast from the past for me!

Oh wow, love this memory! I listened to this non-stop in my university halls in Manchester. “I listen to long wave radio Atlantic 252, Manchester’s number one choice for dance and RnB, now give me my money!” 😁

FitsLikeAGlove · 10/10/2024 20:57

They played Pulp Disco 2000 endlessly!

SonicBoomInTheRoom · 10/10/2024 21:05

My dad went ballistic because I ran up a £700 phone bill calling them for that stupid £1000 Cash Call!!!! Never won it fgs. Shameless shower.

I remember Caesar the Geezer the late night radio DJ on this station. I think he was considered to be a "shock jock" at the time 🤣

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/10/2024 21:14

The home of Hazard by Richard Marx, Runaway Train, Two Princes, The Key, The Secret, Mr Vain LMAO

No no no no no no no no no no no no there's no limit.

Had to listen to that bloody station every morning on the way to school and I hated it—the same songs over and over again. Didn't matter that they were bangers, it irritated the hell out of me.

A couple of years later I was a devotee of the far superior Radio 1 breakfast show—Chris Evans and then Mark and Lard.

Stop!

Was it Atlantic 252 that did the Top 7 at 7? I remember listening to it in the early 90s on my boombox 😁

Yep my purple and pink Boots double deck tape ghetto blaster!!

FitsLikeAGlove · 10/10/2024 21:28

I always used to turn it off tho when they played Simply Red and the one about the fairground. Or the Beautiful South.

Also - Midnight at the Oasis.

Now I'm literally just listing 90s songs!

DoreenonTill8 · 10/10/2024 21:29

🎵Woah woah wooaah
I got a new life, you would hardly recognize me
I'm so glad, how can a person like me care for you?
(Ah) why do I bother, when you're not the one for me?
Ooh-ooh-ooh, is enough enough?
I saw the sign
And it opened up my eyes, I saw the sign
Life is demanding without understanding🎵

DoreenonTill8 · 10/10/2024 21:30

@DustyLee123 you are the best for this thread! Just what I needed after a shitty day at work!

FitsLikeAGlove · 10/10/2024 21:31

@DoreenonTill8 that was the TUNE at the Primary 6 disco at the end of the Aberfeldy residential field trip! Also the one that went "all that she wants..is another baby..."

ShillyShallySherbet · 10/10/2024 21:31

I used to think the DJs were actually broadcasting from the middle of the Atlantic, the signal was so bad which I think gave me that impression! Loved it!

FitsLikeAGlove · 10/10/2024 21:32

I was actually listening to Atlantic 252 in my bedroom in Sep 2001 (getting ready for Freshers week, first year uni) and heard them say that "something terrible had happened in New York" and that everyone should turn on the TV.

Jackiebrambles · 10/10/2024 21:33

omg I had totally forgotten about this, love it!

foghornleghornsbiggestfan · 10/10/2024 21:34

Oh I loved it. My lasting-loop-memory is Amy Grant's baby baby. It came on the local radio station last week and I was telling everyone that was the theme tune to Atlantic 252, but 'everyone' was significantly younger than me so …

KnottedTwine · 10/10/2024 21:34

Now there's a blast from the past! Used to listen to this all the time on the radio in mum's Mini Metro just after I passed my driving test.

I used to think Hazard was the most meaningful song I’d ever heard 😂

Wow I remember Atlantic 252 and all the songs mentioned but before that I listened to Radio Luxembourg (208!), anyone else remember? I listened between about 1984 and 1987 as Radio 1 played indie stuff in the evenings which I wasn’t into then! Loved it.
