Your bank is the first one that springs to mind

shellyleppard · 09/10/2024 23:00

Op I'm sorry you are going through this. Contact your bank/credit card company if you have one and get them to put a stop on your cards. Also contact the phone company and do the same. Did you have phone insurance

mynumber · 09/10/2024 23:02

Was it an iPhone?
What apps did you use on there and emails - do you need to change all passwords?

NigelHarmansNewWife · 09/10/2024 23:04

Lock your phone remotely if you can
Contact your network provider to block the phone
Change app passwords - go online and change them
Unlink apps from your phone if possible

I'm sorry this happened to you - sounds as though you were mugged? Be prepared for what happened to hit you once the adrenaline wears off.

Go to websites you use frequently to buy things like Amazon and if they have the option to, then unauthorise the device. This will log you out on the phone, if you can't unauthorise the device then see if you can 'log out on all devices', if you can't do that then change the password.

If it's an iPhone then login to your Apple account from your computer and go to your account settings, you should see a list of your linked devices, if you click on the phone you will a have the option to remove any stored cards.

Go to your banking apps and set up notifications for every charge so you know quickly if they've managed to gain access to your cards. Notify the bank that your phone has been stolen and that you may have fraudulent charges.

Change your password on any email accounts that you have set up to deliver to your phone.

If it's an iPhone and you have find my enabled you should be able to log in from another device and wipe the phone entirely.

MetalGearSystem · 09/10/2024 23:55

if its facebook you can change your password and set it to log out of other phones etc

Waiting9 · 09/10/2024 23:56

yes it is an iPhone

I have insurance, it should be covered. tried reporting it tonight but reached the out of hours team who said call again tomorrow

police were helpful - we tracked my iPhone for a while on my other apple devices, they had officers searching for it. I can't track the location anymore now. I'm hoping this means that my phone is now locked? because I think it was unlocked when he took it.

he was threatening to hurt me, luckily the police have cctv

I'm definitely running off adrenaline. currently trying to weigh up whether it's worth impulse buying a replacement phone and travelling 100 miles to collect it tomorrow (not in stock online/my local apple stores).

I had every app imaginable on there, its annoying as I can't access things like my ring cameras anymore

is it worth blocking my phone with the network? as I am worried about not being able to track it

You won’t be able to track it if you block it, neither will the police.

Register it stolen on NMPR website.

InfoSecInTheCity · 10/10/2024 00:05

If you are definitely planning to buy another iPhone then you don't need to get it from the Apple Store and travel 100 miles. I prefer buying Apple devices from John Lewis as you get a 2 year guarantee, you can still get Apple Care if you want but in addition you have the John Lewis warranty. Argos is good too, often have better offers for free access to Apple TV or music.

Price is the same regardless of where you buy from.

Waiting9 · 10/10/2024 00:31

thanks so much, I am not going to block it or remove it from my account. it will be worthless to the cunt who stole it. I had the latest updates (iOS 18 beta) and all possible security features on so they can't harvest it for parts either

@InfoSecInTheCity I was going to use finance, apple has a 0% apr finance option but John Lewis charges interest. I was hoping this will get me going until the insurance claim has an outcome. Plus with apple, they accept returns even if you've used the phone, so I'm hoping it's a safer option all around. I could absolutely not be rational right now though !
