I’ve started snoring…..loudly

I woke DH during the night. What can I do to prevent it? just been over the last 6/8 weeks or so. I am not overweight, no new bed or bedding or pillows. I can’t understand why. DH said he cannot for the life of him understand how I am so loud.

The obvious things first:

  • have you gained weight? A fairly small increase in weight can make you snore.
  • had you been drinking?
  • did you have a cold?
  • are you or could you be pregnant?

Thank you for helping.

No weight gain. I am 5’7 and weight 10 stone. Fluctuates a bit but a pound or 2 either side but pretty consistent.

No alcohol. I did consider that when I first started but definitely nothing last night.

No to a cold.

No to being pregnant. I am 52. Can age be a factor?

Thanks cheez. I will do some research. As if menopause wasn’t enough, we will just throw snoring at my age too!

You could try taping your mouth.. I have been using the adult version of these; https://www.amazon.co.uk/MyoTape-Nose-Breathing-for-Kids/dp/B0C7LS8P32/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1W5Y7ZWUVB0XF&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.6u8oLzEGLNqXOrbU2cYqKmE-3dJbv0Jm2Oq2f5mhxSJdz6Ysk8hpBpyhc88uT15hIVcKBlZM1wQULVTZyvv0QNKNga-1-A_ZQQLVe2z8lOeIwQ7EwQfBpHfayi85Rw7lIT4fOW-crX5qXQAjoYlkM0UlRxdKLJHlYAwZoDGEQjSnMIyyq0YTSIo7WxZt8l51RGE-LJ8hNRXrODi1D37SrXiZk0Qmhxr1ILs_Tiz-N-G84TNxjoV5MqZcJHfP0vpZqiHOJWmtyW-pB7kxZ2hQ0H7Ov_o0-czHfKeJ7khJSiI.pjCcYxri9UOK_N-k6Ild4cip9Q-zFcWWE7FT6meo2jM&dib_tag=se&keywords=myotape&nsdOptOutParam=true&qid=1728467703&sprefix=myotape%2Caps%2C120&sr=8-5. but can't find them now, I have ordered a similar version to try... they don't block my mouth, just remind my mouth to stay closed.

A few weeks in, I am sleeping better, and it reminds me to sleep on my side and not my back - but I am still waking with my mouth open.

I am considering going to a see an osteopath to see if there is any tension in my jaw that making this work. I have had a few minor jaw issues over the years.

I find some strong smells can make me really snuffly and snore, even some things like perfume in hand cream or face cream, never mind actual perfume. It's a pita.
