At 5:20pm I went to my local post office and asked for a letter to be sent next day recorded delivery. The guy behind the counter explained I had missed the slot for next day delivery. So it would get there for the day after. I said this is fine, as it was quite late in the day, and asked when the cut off point is for next day delivery. He explained the post man could come at any time and he couldn’t give me a time. He then explained it would be better if I came in to post the letter the next day and I explained I couldn’t and I’d like to process it today. The guy gave me a really weird look and I then felt prompted to say I couldn’t come in next day as I had engagements all day. He then said he was only trying to help me - which was a bizarre statement to make. He then said he couldn’t process next day delivery and it would now take up to 2-3 days for the letter to go and asked if I was ok with that. I explained no - but if that’s all that can be done, then that’s that. He then got funny and said he was doing all he could to help me. He was behaving in a really weird and defensive way. I was polite the whole time. I then simply asked if I could pay and go because he was making me feel very uncomfortable. He didn’t behave this way with the male customer who was before me.
Can anyone explain what the Royal Mail rules are for recorded next day delivery, and why now my letter will take 2-3 days to get to its destination? It’s an important letter and is time sensitive. The post office is in a busy town - it’s like I am based somewhere remote.
Thank you.
