I'm planning my wedding and reeeeeeeeally want a punk pop/emo theme going on in the night!
We've created a list of songs, with a mix of stuff everyone will know, but also stuff that we really want. If you're over 50 (especially over 60!) can you tell me how much you know from my list! Also, your approx age please, if you don't mind! I really don't want to annoy half the crowd!
For reference, I'm almost 40 and there will be lots our age there, but also lots in their late 50s and 60s, and a few 70s.

I'm 59 - these are the ones I know. But I have DDs who were into PopPunk so much of it is 'their' music from the Noughties. You're missing My Chemical Romance!

Like a pp punk to me is The Stranglers, The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers.

Age 57. I guess we just have different tastes, I'm more 80s, 2 tone, new romantic, The Jam, The Clash, The Stranglers. I'd be out in the foyer chatting with your playlist, sorry. TBH the best thing about weddings is catching up with people you haven't seen for ages.

I’m mid 60s. Replying on my phone so please excuse inconsistency of response!
Can’t see any punk in there tbh, more grunge.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 07/10/2024 16:54

No real Punk? No Ska or Two-Tone? No Misfits? Ramones, Blondie, The Damned, Pistols, Clash, Eddie & the Hotrods?

It's all a bit, umm, Magic FM.

Even some 4-to-the-floor disco and pretty much anything ever done by the Pet Shop Boys and Erasure would be more edgy than Mr Bloody Brightside.

HeddaGarbled · 07/10/2024 16:55

I’m 64 and I know 8.

tolerable · 07/10/2024 17:02
  1. Know them all.
ThisMustBeMyDream · 07/10/2024 17:07

@Hatty65 you're right! We haven't agreed on which one/ones! But MCR will make it on there!

The DJ will be playing around 100 songs, so this list isn't even half of the night! I will probably add a few more we'd quite like still!

Our first dance is a Papa Roach song 🤣🤣🤣🤣 for the disapproving! It's No Matter What (accoustic version!).

We have string quartet versions of Blink, Fall Out Boy and Panic! for the ceremony!

Don't worry, more standard lovey dovey stuff for the wedding breakfast!

OP posts:
Attelina · 07/10/2024 17:08

I'm old and know 14 of the songs.

As long as you don't play any Taylor Swift, Adele, Beyoncé, Bieber, Ed Sheerin, Lily Allen, Dual Leper or Nicki Minaj It wouldn't bother me as to what music was being played.

Xanadu58 · 07/10/2024 17:08

I'm 56 and I know 24 of them

TarnishedMoonstone · 07/10/2024 17:10

ThisMustBeMyDream · 07/10/2024 16:34

@TarnishedMoonstone It's punk pop, a genre in itself, not punk. But not all the playlist, there is other stuff in for others eg Whitney, Oasis, Bon Jovi etc.

Fair enough, I didn’t even know that. But you did ask for comments from people my sort of age and quite a few of us have said similar things. Nothing you’ve listed is stuff I’d have danced to 40 years ago. No reason why it should be, of course, but you did ask my age group for feedback! Have a great wedding.

CaptainMyCaptain · 07/10/2024 17:13

I'm 69 and know 10 of them. None of them are punk though.

That would be a good playlist imo.

Wisterical · 07/10/2024 17:18

I'm 60 and know 15 of those, only maybe 4 of which I like. I'm not sure what you mean by punk pop but none of those are what my generation would consider punk or even punk-ish.

EveryKneeShallBow · 07/10/2024 17:21

Also mid sixties and know about 65, 75% of these. But like others my age wouldn’t appeal to me really. I’d also be out in the foyer catching up. I don’t know that it matters particularly, but why bother curating a playlist at all if you’re not interested in feedback as you asked.

Newterm · 07/10/2024 17:26

I’m in my sixties. I’d suggest

the Jam. Start, Tube Station at Midnight, David Watts, Elton rifles
ELO. Mr Blue Sky
Wax. Bridge to your Heart
Rolling Stones. Let’s spend the night together
Oasis. Roll with it
Dexys. Celtic Soul Brothers
echo and the bunnymen. Seven seas
adam ant. Ant music
heaven 17. Temptation
teardrop explodes. Reward
manic street preachers. Design for life
xtc. Plans for nigel
the beat. Mirror in the bathroom
specials. Gangsters
the associates. Party fears two

😀

QuirkyEagle · 07/10/2024 17:27
