Hello. Just what the title says haha!
I've got 3 children between age 6 and 14
Every day the big question is what's for dinner lol

I find we have the same things every week.

Jacket potatoes
Spaghetti bolognaise
Roast dinner
Pasta bake
Fajitas
Shepherds pie
Lasagne
Curry
Soups & crusty bread

These all have sides weather it's a bit of Salad / rice / chips

Does anyone else feel the same? I want to spice up the menu .... xxxxx

Homemade pizza night
Kebabs
Quesadillas (chicken, cheese and veggies)
Sausage casserole
Chorizo and bean stew
Tacos

Bohomovies · 06/10/2024 14:06

I get stuck in a rut with meals too. For your list, you could add some kind of tray bake? Roast veg, topped with salmon/halloumi/chicken.
Also, do you like eggs? Maybe add an egg dish. Baked eggs with leeks, or a frittata, or a Spanish omelette served with salad, crusty bread and Greek yogurt.

I meant to add Omelettes as well.

Tacos or Enchiladas instead of Fajitas?

vincettenoir · 06/10/2024 14:09

Gnocci and chilli (not too spicy) and Spanish chickpea and (veggy) sausage stew are reasonably plain dishes that go down well here.

workplaceshenanigans · 06/10/2024 14:10

Chicken portions traybake with roasted vegetables

Kebabs

Sausage, mash & onion gravy

Scampi & chips with peas

Sweet & sour pork

Meatballs

Soluckyinlove · 06/10/2024 14:13

Risotto - chicken, salmon, prawn or vegetable.

Stew cooked in the slow cooker with Yorkshire pudding or dumplings.

Quiche or tart - my favourite is cheese and onion.

Do you eat fish?

Our main two reoccurring meals are fish on Friday and Sunday roast.

It works great for me because it means twice a week I don't need to think about meal planning, it's just a given, and all the family look forward to it.

When we're on holiday we'll even have "fish on Friday" in different locations 😆.

It's only five days a week I need to be "diverse" and get creative.

Nothing wrong with a bit of repetition and predictability, then mixing it up the rest of the time.

workplaceshenanigans · 06/10/2024 14:27

Paella

Cornish pasties

Fish cakes

Chilli pie - chilli con carne made like a cottage pie & topped with potato wedges instead of mash

KnottyKnitting · 06/10/2024 14:56

Pesto topped salmon with oven roasted cherry toms and little skin on roasties. So simple and totally delicious.

I often do chicken green Thai curry ( jar of the blue dragon sauce, coconut milk sometimes so sweet potatoes, courgettes/ broccoli) can make it more spicy with some dried chillies and lime leaves. Usually served with rice or naan with mini spring rolls.

Fajitas always quick and easy

I use leftover bolognaise mix and top it with mash and cheese- + green veg- yum!

Italian style chicken stew is quick and easy cooked in the slow cooker. Nice with rice, mash or crusty bread

Windsorlady · 06/10/2024 17:34

Ooh, i definitely need more ideas. It gets so samey.

Bbq1 · 06/10/2024 18:07

An all day breakfast is something we enjoy. Also, potatoes, Yorkshires, sausage and gravy.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 06/10/2024 18:16

I've just done our meal plan for this week:

S - sausages, Yorkies, mash, veg
M - gammon & chips
T - pasta & garlic bread
W - steamed fish, rice, veg
T - shepherd's pie
F - chicken kievs & rice
S - lasagne

I hate food planning, shopping, cooking but at least we know what to crackers on with when we get in from work each day.

Notinmylifethyme · 06/10/2024 18:29

I don't plan as such. I buy a variety of veg each week, and every night just cook veg, meat (whatever I pull out the freezer) and potato / rice. Chuck in whatever herbs or spices I feel like chucking in.

Nothing is ever repeated. Which is a real shame when I've produced something everyone likes, as I can never remember what I put in it😂

AtleastitsnotMonday · 06/10/2024 18:55

Could you make variation of those dishes though?
E.g pasta bake could be tuna pasta bake with a tomato sauce, peppers and sweetcorn, chicken and leek pasta bake, macaroni cheese, Mediterranean veg pasta bake with garlic, courgettes, peppers, red onion. Etc etc
Curry- that's a massive category, use different meat, veg, make different pastes, Thai, Indian, etc

Phase2 · 06/10/2024 19:22

I had a limited repertoire so once a week I learned something new and cooked it, didn't add anything else until I could do it from scratch and memory.
Used a basic veggie cook book and Google.
Recently added

Spinach and ricotta cannelloni
Parmigiana
Carbonara
Lasagna

gettingolderbutcooler · 06/10/2024 19:29

Made nice salmon fish cakes today. Just mush up a can of pink salmon with egg, seasoning (and I use chives) and cover with breadcrumbs and shallow fry. Yum.
Also second a Spanish omelette! Making one tomorrow with uneaten chips.
