Card games, board games for teens and adult get-togethers

Want to have a game night round the table, remember doing this with my family when younger and used to love it. Will have friends and their teenage DC's, just wondering what are your favourite card games, board games or anything that can be played with a group that everyone will enjoy. Thanks!

Sequence
Rummikub
Quirkle

We sometimes go old school and just get the dominoes out, it kinda gets everyone warmed up and engaged

scissy · 05/10/2024 20:16

One night ultimate werewolf - the great thing about this one is that theoretically each "game"/round only lasts approx 5 min so it's a good filler and it has an app which tells each character what to do on their "turn" so easy to pick up.

Our youth group (teens) always ask me to bring it on games nights.

Cockroach poker

CrystalSingerFan · 05/10/2024 20:34

Sounds fab!

I agree with Exploding Kittens, Uno and old skool Consequences. Plus Scrabble, but I'm a SPAG Nazi...

pointythings · 05/10/2024 21:04

We like pretty much all of the above, but if you want to go a little more adventurous it's worth looking into Dixit and Mysterium.

Magic The Gathering Game Night: Free for All 2022, Fantasy Card Game for 2 - 5 Players

Edited

Not unless you already know how to play Magic .it's not a group game really.

JaffavsCookie · 05/10/2024 21:07

Catan, plus the many expansion packs, carcassone, quacks of quedlinburg ( really easy to play and very good fun)

that set comes with rules and its basic sets rather than complicated ones when its the commander version its usually 4 people,

Mysterium is hard work.

StormingNorman · 05/10/2024 21:20

Would I be a basic bitch to suggest Connect 4?

drspouse · 05/10/2024 21:22

If you want something really fast paced and evil, Racing Demon is great. Lots of decks of cards needed.

Tygertiger · 05/10/2024 21:25

Personally I find Cards Against Humanity gets boring pretty quickly once the shock novelty wears off.

Ticket To Ride takes a bit of learning but then is quite addictive. Azul is really good too. If you want a quicker game, Exploding Kittens is fun and easy to learn.

We are dedicated game players and got really bored with Mysterium. It’s basically a guessing game.

I'd disagree with that, it's a game that really brings out how well you know each other and how you communicate.

noodlezoodle · 05/10/2024 21:47

Ransom Notes. You have to make up answers to the (ridiculous) prompts with fridge magnet words. Utter hilarity ensues. There are a few NSFW cards and words in there but you can just remove those if you're playing with children.

Yes - by guessing! We found it lacking in actual strategy and tactics. Gave it a couple of goes then it went to charity. For those considering it I’d have a good read of how you play it or watch some YouTube vids as it’s very Marmite. It bored us.

Arran2024 · 05/10/2024 21:47

Would recommend Tension. Everyone can join in and it's not too serious

tigerbear · 05/10/2024 21:50

Catan
sequence
Sherlock
Splendour
Town & Country

ExitPursuedByABare · 05/10/2024 21:52

We just play rummy. Relentlessly.

Occasionally Trivial Pursuit but I always win.

letmego24 · 05/10/2024 21:54

Catan

3doughnutproblem · 05/10/2024 22:00

This is great! Thanks for all the suggestions, have to admit I haven't heard of many of these games so off ro do some research, can see same ones coming up and will check those out first.

Carcassonne is our go to family game (we already know the rules)
Chameleon is good and quick to pick up
We also have a great game called 'the Roman game' which is very easy to learn but is a decent strategy game
Uno if you want to argue

Disappearedwife · 05/10/2024 22:07

Catan.

but someone needs to properly learn the rules first so the game runs smoothly

Kneeslikethese · 05/10/2024 22:08

Outsmarted
The Fame Game
Cards against humanity is my favourite but you really need to know who you're playing with, it's very offensive to some people.
