When did Chip shops fully stop using newspaper to wrap chips?

Because I remember being at either Weymouth or Yarmouth in 2004 and being surprised the chip shop still did it. They wrapped it in newspaper at the end rather than directly touching the chips, so it must have been a while before that that the practice stoped elsewhere?
It was a slow phase out I think, mid 90's onwards maybe?

Explaining it to the kids this morning 😄

I think it was considered unhygienic.
Some shops brought it back with paper printed to look like newspaper.
Original newsprint never fully dried so came off on your fingers.
