Sometimes we forget the small wins with the grind of daily life. I am in a positive mood, the best thing to happen to me was being accepted by an NHS dentist along with my 20 and 22 year old kids😀So,so happy.

Lots of lovely things this year. DD starting Oxford University on Monday and very excited. DD and I had lovely holiday in Borneo together seeing the wildlife. All cancer tests have been clear after cancer end 2021 and my delayed reconstruction has finally happened after 2.5 years waiting and 2 cancellations and gone brilliantly. Look like me and can feel all parts of my body again as nerves have reconnected. And been offered an amazing new job after not working for a while doing what I have always wanted to do. Plus my wonderful floofy cat.

I applied for a huge promotion with no hope of getting it, then only bloody well got it!! 25% payrise, love the job.

ExperiencedTeacher · 05/10/2024 11:37

Leaving my husband of 20+ years. He’s the loveliest man but we were no longer happy. We are now both rebuilding our lives and looking forward to happy futures separately.

bearfood · 05/10/2024 11:53

Grandchild born in February, promotion in June and amazing GCSE results for DS in August. A brilliant year tbh.

Tiggiwinklescousin · 05/10/2024 11:55

I got married.

LittleHangleton · 05/10/2024 12:03

My salery progression this year:

July 2022- Jan 2024 - 22.5k
Feb 2024 - 44.5k
Sept 2024 - 63.8k

It blows my mind, especially after 17 years as a SAHM. I thought I'd have to stick at a minimum wage "mum job".

travailtotravel · 05/10/2024 12:24

Loving these!

I also lost 30% of my body weight (walking, diet) and took 3 months unpaid leave and went travelling. Good year. There are some down bits but so many more ups!

runwithme · 05/10/2024 12:29

Started going to the gym. I'm no gym bunny but it's helped me physically and mentally
DS1 doing well in gcses

This is SUCH a good post!! @Eyerollexpert 😍

Went from talking of separating because things were so stressful at start of the year, (including many bereavements this past 18 months) it felt like really dark days after 20 odd years together and 4 children,
then out of the blue I met a magical therapist who has helped me to understand that the problems in our relationship are rooted in childhood trauma for us both, this has meant anger is exchanged for understanding and compassion and I feel like we are well on the way to our relationship being in a better state than ever before! (So massively relieved and grateful to her 😭💖)

School refusing autistic child suddenly deciding to go back to school. Only half days so far but I'm taking the win.

Went to Ibiza for the first time aged 40 and loved it!

Applying for a job last minute, with school hours & holidays off, 5 minutes down the road on the off chance I might get an interview with no previous experience. Getting an interview & then the job. It allows me to finish my degree & see if teaching is for me with the very real possibility of teaching or other roles which I think are for me, like pastoral. Loving it & get holidays with my kids, very, very happy! Life is back and everything is on the up!

Which job?!

Support staff in secondary school, to senior support staff, to SLT (on teaching leadership scale L11, but no teaching requirement)

I used to be a teacher. Haven't taught for nearly 20y tho.

I feel very lucky.

I think the key was, I left the current salery box blank and just detailed my skills.

OctoblocksAssemble · 05/10/2024 22:31

Passed my driving test, it's been moderately life changing.

ItsLovelyWeatherForDucks · 05/10/2024 22:49

Earning a pilot's licence after a year of hard work.

rubyslipperss · 06/10/2024 00:24

Had a lovely holiday with DD2 and DH earlier this year - nice to spend time with her as we are almost empty nesters now !

A family member has gone back to work and is in recession after breast cancer.

ChocAuVin · 06/10/2024 00:34

What a brilliant thread 🩵

My go: got approached and offered a new job. Accepted; handed in notice. Current employer seemed genuinely distraught, made a counter offer for a mahoosive promotion and payrise. Happy days!

feellikeimfiveagain · 06/10/2024 05:43

I graduated from uni after 3 years out, four funerals and a parent being diagnosed as terminally ill. I got a better grade than I could ever hoped for . I then moved 200 miles from home, and started my dream job. Six months on I am for the first time in my life happy. Not all day but every day I can find something that’s good, that’s an absolute miracle as I spent much of the last 33 years very far from happy at all.

Losing 4.5 stone.
The difference it has made to my confidence and self esteem, not to mention my health is astounding.
