WTF was that?! NOT a moth!

Something just flew or fell, with a buzzing noise from ceiling level to the floor and disappeared. Possibly under the sofa that I am sitting on, lovely, dont really want to move in case the flying bogey man tries to grab me!

It wasnt a moth, we get a fair few and they, as we all know, dont go for dark places. And why the buzzing?! Its very cold here, not really insect season and in my 51 years I have never known a buzzing insect to do anything like that. Size wise, moth or large wasp size.

Really has given me the willies and I am the sort of person who will pick up a large spider in their hand and chuck it outside, so not normally given to even a single willy.

Probably a Common Cockchafer although may be a bit late in the year?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 05/10/2024 00:08

It was more than likely a moth, had one recently, was MASSIVE! I nearly had to move house🤢

PyongyangKipperbang · 05/10/2024 00:11

I really dont think it was a moth, I have had some massive ones but they usually fly around first. This seemed to be more of a fall than a fly.

I would say it was smaller than a cabbage white butterfly but bigger than a blue bottle.

So...moth sized then 😜

QueenBitch666 · 05/10/2024 00:15

Nope, this fell and buzzed , it was most strange, sort of dive bombed.

Yes, exactly what I screamed 🤣

PyongyangKipperbang · 05/10/2024 00:26

I'm almost certain it's not a moth but there was a spider about the right size on the wall yesterday that isn't there anymore. Do they buzz?!

Oh and it looked black

We had a hornet come in the window at night recently, it was huge! It dropped to the floor and was very slowly crawling around in a dazed state. Not acting anything like a buzzing, flying hornet at all!

What I'm trying to say, badly, is that it may not be what it seems.

PyongyangKipperbang · 05/10/2024 01:01

Windows have not been open as the house is frankly Baltic!

Not heard anything more so I am beginning to think that it may be the spider.

Have been for a wee and nothing grabbed at me from under the sofa, so I think I am safe.

I think its mainly that it made me jump a fucking mile that freaked me out!

Billy witch?

Userxyd · 05/10/2024 02:05

Have you got a chimney in the room? I found a big scary hornet one morning that wasn't there in the night and all windows/door were closed. Could only have come down the chimney - which doesn't work and is also sealed at the top 😫

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 05/10/2024 04:46

Bat?

Jewelanemone · 05/10/2024 04:50

Shield bug? We've had a few of them recently, although they aren't very big. They do buzz a bit, though.

Paisleydad · 05/10/2024 17:12

Only when you plug them in.
