Does anyone else think that there are too many people who don't take responsibility for themselves and their families by making sure that they arrange life, travel or other suitable protection.

In a national newspaper this week I have seen GFM appeals for a father of 4 that died after a fall in Tenerife, a GFM for a self employed father of 6 that died suddenly and a GFM to repatriate a woman who died abroad.

All these could gave been funded by taking out the relevant insurances. We insure our cars and even our pets but it would seem that some people do not care enough about their families to make adequate provision for them in the tragic event of the breadwinner dying.

Life cover and travel insurance are relatively cheap and if you can afford a holiday or you run your own business they should be a priority.

How old are you, and how old were you when you took out a policy? I didn’t really think about dying in my 20s. I took out life insurance at 35-£35pcm. DH was 47 at the time. His is £97pcm, so not insubstantial!

People like to do things like this when someone dies to help the grieving family. It comes from a place of grief, shock, and I can’t see the problem. When my DH dies I was given a few generous offers of money that I’d never have expected.

It’s traditional in some communities to have a whip round when someone dies, and it’s common to make donations to a relative or chosen charity. This is just a different, modern way of doing it.

Do people realise that GoFundMe take a cut of the earnings???
I see them so often, and there are bound to be gullible people who will donate!
