Hi everyone, hoping to find a lovely photographer mnetter who can advise me as it is not my hobby. My wonderful DH is turning 60 soon and I have recently come into some money and would love to buy him a new camera. He uses a nikon camera at the moment (I think!) but I have no idea what type. We are going to have a wildlife holiday next year and he loves taking photos of mountains. What would people suggest as a shop I could take him to that would make a bit of a fuss of him and make him feel special. We are in Bristol but I could lure him further afield. What budgets am I looking at with a lens? Possibly 5k to get a good one but I've no idea. Thanks for any advice.

You've got Bristol cameras & Wex in Bristol. Both have lots of choice and knowledgeable staff. He definitely needs to try it/chose it himself - it's a very personal decision. If he moves to a different brand mpb are very good for trading in used equipment. My dream would be £5000 to spend on camera kit!

Are you sure it is a new camera he would want or new lenses? Personally i wouldnt want someone buying me a camera of that budget without being the person that does the research and gets what I wanted.

Rather out of touch with photography these days but would definitely let him choose, most likely he's quite geeky about it and will have obscure interests!

If your easy reach of London try Grays of Westminster. They are a Nikon dealer but its like going back in time . You are given a chair etc and will get that special treatment. My DH uses them a lot .
I just bought a bridge camera Sony rx10 iv for £1500 from Jessops Im really pleased with it, I cant be bothered changing lenses etc.

Thanks for the advice, I certainly wouldn't choose it for him but had the idea of taking him shopping so the places you have suggested sound great
