Dear god help- welly stench!

I got a cracking pair of new wellies. Love them. But my god, I've only had them a fortnight and my feet stink.

How do people avoid this? I'm scrubbing the life out of my feet each night after wearing them. Going to try putting talcum powder on my feet before my socks to see if that helps at all.

I do wear them a lot because I'm out and about with my toddler most days in all weather on the west coast of Scotland. We get a lot of rain.

Any other suggestions? I remember years ago using odour eaters spray inside a pair of shoes and the smell of the stuff mixed with the smell of sweaty feet gave me even more of the heave. Never used the stuff again.

Soak your feet daily in water to which you have added some surgical spirit.

Thanks, I've never heard of this. What do you think about the wellies themselves?

Make sure they dry out properly, and if your feet are surgical spirited, that will help anyway.

I think you might need multiple pairs if you need wellies everyday. Same as other footwear it needs a day or two to dry out between wears

I read that as willy stench and now I'm disappointed...

Put bicarbonate of soda in them and give a good shake. Leave them a couple of days.

Another one is to put cat tray neutraliser balls on socks and stuff the filled socks inside.

BaronessBomburst · 04/10/2024 21:09

Use a proper, old-fashioned eau de cologne body splash on your feet. Something around 70% alcohol. It'll kill the bacteria, which are feeding on the sweat on your feet and causing the smell.
Presumably the surgical spirit suggested by workplaceshenanigans does the same thing.

I've never had smelly wellies. I think I'd chuck them if they were that bad.

I've never had this, is it cheesy feet small or that grim dead smell on wet trainers that haven't dried properly?

If the latter and you use them each day I'd get three pairs on rotation so that they properly dry out. And put them on a heated rack?

Literally had them a fortnight. Cost a lot too.

Would cost an utter fortune 😨 they are muck boots wellies.

Maybe I need to get a good pair of winter boots and save the wellies for serious wet weather days.

They’re not neoprene lined ones are they? They can get stinky.
I would Recommend a boot drier like the banana shaped driers Amazon sell and if needed a uv boot steriliser… did the job when DP worked at the abattoir and was in lined wellies 12 hours a day.

Yes neoprene lined!

Description for the boot on website also says:

"antimicrobial insert with odour and moisture management treatment keeps you fresh all day"

😱😱😱

They are such comfortable boots as well 😐
