Red headed baby

My baby was born with red hair. It fell out and is growing back a paler red (9 months old now). It looks very different in different lights - occasionally strawberry blonde in some and then very red in others especially outside. This picture was taken outside!

If your baby was born with red hair what age did their hair colour settle? Did it keep changing or if it fell out and grew back did it pretty much settle on it’s colour?

Impatient to imagine what she’s going to look like when she’s older!

DD was born with a red mohican, stayed that way with very little other hair until 18 months, then had lovely red ringlets by 2 years.
Her hair is titian and looks fiery in bright sunlight and brown in dull light.

minipie · 03/10/2024 22:19

DD2 had hair like this. It didn’t really change and is now strawberry blonde - redder in winter, blonder in summer and round her face. Often complimented.

Alicana · 03/10/2024 22:20

My sister had exactly the same hair! It’s now a dark warm brown, can look slightly auburn in the sun, but mostly brown.

My DD was born with the same colour as your picture. By the time she was toddling it had become more blonde and by the time she reached secondary school she was a dirty blonde. During hot summers she used to get reddish, rather than blonde, highlights. Now? Now she dyes it a fierce copper and it really suits her.

Does it matter OP?

Just enjoy your beautiful baby and stop focusing on she looks.

Being female she'll have more than enough focus on that for most of her life.

My son was born with hair exactly like this and by 6 months it was lighter and now at 14 he still has proper blonde hair- like platinum blonde. None of the rest of us do! Husband has darn brown hair and I have mid brown. My dad had red hair.

Faldodiddledee · 03/10/2024 23:04

My hair was similar to that as a baby, it was more gingery up til about 20 and over the decades it has faded a bit to a reddy blonde. I was thinking today about how happy I am that I am a redhead. It sounds a bit strange but I saw all the students at work walking about, I think red hair and being a bit more unusual is fashionable now.

outforawalkbiatch · 03/10/2024 23:05

I was red and then an almost bright orange as a child
It's faded now and looks anything from auburn to brown to ginger depending on the light. Changes so much that my hairdresser did a double take and asked when I had it coloured

What an absolute cutie, she sounds gorgeous 😍

endofanera23 · 03/10/2024 23:06

It has never changed in either of my redheads (one mid and one mid/dark red).

mynameiscalypso · 03/10/2024 23:07

My DS has the same hair; maybe a touch more red. It's not changed that much now he's 5. He is very distinctive at school as he is the only person with red hair in the whole school.

outforawalkbiatch · 03/10/2024 23:07

Here you go, just different lighting, no colour or filter

Why are you asking op? It's impossible to tell at such a young age what your child's hair colour will end up.

QueenofFox · 03/10/2024 23:09

I had the same hair, perhaps slightly redder. From about 3 I've been proper platinum blonde, never dyed no greys. People often ask where I get it dyed. No one in my family is blonde but my dad is a redhead.

Faldodiddledee · 03/10/2024 23:13

@outforawalkbiatch stunning hair! Love the waves. Mine also looks very different, sometimes in bright sunlight it kind of glows!

TobiasForgesContactLense · 03/10/2024 23:13

As a ginger with ginger parents and a ginger brother it can be hard to tell at that age. I was similar at that age and still the same - well mostly - at 48. Photo attached. My DB went a bit darker though.

My husband's nephew had mousy hair when born but is dark brown now so I know it can change. On my side we tend to stick with being ginger.

I would say it is too soon to tell for your DC.

My daughter had dark red hair when born, and for her first few months.
It changed many times over the years from red to strawberry blonde, to actual blonde. Oddly it varied in colour in very short time periods depending on the light.
At around 16 it settled on red and has remained that way for the last 5 years.

My DD had same colour hair when really small, it's now darker colour, more auburn and very streaky mix of brown/red/copper/blond and very fiery in the sun. She gets complimented on it a lot, which as a child of 90s always surprises me, but is lovely if a bit weird for her!😅

Red hair is so strange! I was born carrot and have gone from that to Auburn and back again.
Only thing that's sure is it changes over life.

Greenpictureframe · 03/10/2024 23:52

Me and my girls all started out like your daughters, our hair changes depending on light, in summer if we've been out loads my eldest goes a gingery blonde but in winter it gets a darker ginger/auburn, my youngest hair pops bright ginger in certain lights. With mine I have died it browns etc when younger and within week it was back to ginger, the pigment is just so strong, although now at over 40 its starting to go white/grey lol, we love our hair.

My daughter was born with the same colour hair and still has a slight red tinge. This is it now.
