I forgot to get a sick note. What now?

I’ve been off work for a week, tomorrow is day 8. Planning to return on Monday. Spoken to GP and have a fit note for amended duties from Monday, but no sick note to cover tomorrow and I can’t self certify for it. My manager wants a sick note by tomorrow morning. The best I can do is contact the doctors tomorrow but they may not get round to it until the afternoon, and I don’t know if that’s too late. Is that an acceptable option or will I have to return to work tomorrow?

I would email explaining you can only contact the drs for a fit note tomorrow and you will forward on as soon as you get it. Ours doctors has 72 hour turn around, so her request to get it so soon is unreasonable given the pressure on GPs.

As a line manager myself, I would have no issue with this.

Just explain you’ve asked for it and will send it when it arrives.

Is your manager usually reasonable? This kind of situation is entirely normal and not something that would concern me.
