When can ds take these antibiotics?

16 year old ds2 has a fast metabolism so he tends to snack quite a bit. He also has autism. He's just got some antibiotics today but they need to be taken on an empty stomach 4 times a day, 2 hours after food or 1 hour before. I've tried but I can't work out when he should take them to let him still eat between meals. He wakes up at 6:30am and goes to bed at 11pm. He is in college either 11-5 or 9-3.

He is on 500mg tablets of antibiotics when the standard dose is 250mg so I'm a bit anxious about making sure I get it right.

6:30am Tablet 1 on waking
7:30am breakfast +/- snacks until 10am
Noon Tablet 2
1pm lunch +/- snacks until 3:30pm
5:30pm Tablet 3
6:30pm dinner +/- snacks until 9pm
11pm Tablet 4

Above based on even spacing of tablets during waking hours (5&1/2 hourly) and intended as a guide/example. Reality need not be so rigid so timings of tablets can be moved to fit with his day e.g. if college lunch hour is at a fixed time.

It's not going to be the end of the world if some doses are not taken exactly according to the instructions- try your best where possible, but don't worry if timings are slightly out.

Also it's better to take no matter what the timings are than to skip doses. I've had patients not take medication because they couldn't keep to the instructions. But it's not going to work at all if you don't take it! 🙈
