I was suspended from WhatsApp about a week ago. When I queried I was told it was a mistake and that I could use my account again if I verified it. Since then I have tried to verify it at least twice a day but do not receive a verification code by sms and the voice call option only gives me a single digit code rather than 6. I guess most people can imagine the chaos this has caused in my work and personal life. Yes of course there are multiple other ways to communicate with people but I can’t get hold of many of them to tell them the situation.
Anyway, I have of course contacted WhatsApp (23 emails so far) and they just send the identical generic AI advice in response every time. The advice is very basic (checking the number is correct, reinstalling the app, checking all permissions are allowed etc) I have done all of these things, I have also checked with BT my provider and they say there is no reason why I should not be receiving the verification codes.
I actually work in IT myself and have consulted other people who really know about phones. There really is nothing I have done or not done. The fault is clearly with WhatsApp.
Just to preempt anybody who wants to suggest turning my phone on and off again, I am not looking for technical advice as I am fairly sure I have done everything I can. I am posting to ask if anyone else is in the same position as I would like to start a group campaign to get WhatsApp to deal with it. I am fairly sure it is a widespread issue and it needs a group effort.
