Fly in 3 weeks, would you go with everything that's going on close by and with the army bases being there?

Yes,I would.I live here and everything is very much business as usual.

It's a lovely time of year to visit too!

You will be fine in Cyprus.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 02/10/2024 08:21

Yes

Beezknees · 02/10/2024 08:22

Of course I'd go.

CeruleanBelt · 02/10/2024 08:25

Of course!

CuttySarcasm · 02/10/2024 08:27

The RAF will be flying out of there probably to go and do Ops, but I can’t imagine a world where there would be any type of invasion to get the army bases! There’s a big sea in the way that helps.

If anyone wanted to come and bomb anything (they wouldn’t), they’d probably go for RAF Akrotiri, so don’t stay near there.

But genuinely I wouldn’t be concerned at all.

As someone who is married into a Greek Cypriot family, I can tell you that I’d be more worried about the two sides of the island kicking off at each other than anything going on elsewhere! The soldiers are stationed there to keep the peace between them and not deal with the external things

Yes. We were out there a few years ago when the UK, US and France launched an attack on Syria from Cyprus air bases and it was fine. It's scary though and I don't think people realise how close Cyprus is to countries at war such as Syria, Lebanon etc. They wouldn't fly there if there was a risk either.

Just to hijack, I am supposed to be flying to Dubai at the end of the month. I feel really selfish worrying about it as ultimately my holiday is so unimportant in the grand scheme of things. But I don't know how it will go.
Luckily I've only paid for the flights and the hotel is not due to be paid for until we get there.

TickingAlongNicely · 02/10/2024 08:33

Cyprus has a massive UN presence, totally unconnected to the British bases.
Probably one if safest places to go on holiday.

ANightingaleSang · 02/10/2024 09:30

Of course, you will fine in Cyprus. (RAF veteran)

Vitriolinsanity · 02/10/2024 19:37

Yes. In fact I am.

I was also in Cyprus the night the Gulf War began.

I wouldn't go to Dubai no but for lots of reasons covered on numerous threads on here. I'd also be worried about the current situation though yes.

Thanks so much to everyone who replied. This has reassured me. First proper holiday in 18 months so I was a little 🤦‍♀️. Frist world problems I absolutely know.
