Does anybody use Snapchat ?

I'm hoping someone can help.
I haven't used snapchat in a while.
Why can I see random peoples stories with a little add friend symbol ?
I thought I could only see my friends pictures

I'm so confused

I don't use it but my daughter says that just means those are people who you might know and who Snapchat are encouraging you to add. I think you can modify who can see your story in settings though.

I'm not sure I like the idea of random people seeing my pictures.
Does it just pick random people ?
