Are men really that desperate that they'd want to date people at work?

Do they not know any women outside of work?
Do they not have any friends/relatives?

Lots of couples meet at work don't they? I don't think it's particularly unusual or necessarily desperate.

Reugny · 01/10/2024 16:42

Huh?

Lots of couples meet at work.

Sometimes one of the couple is a temp and moves on job wise a few months later.

harridan50 · 01/10/2024 16:42

Lots of people meet at work

purpleme12 · 01/10/2024 16:43

What a weird thread 😂

BigDahliaFan · 01/10/2024 16:43

Lots of people meet at work. Where do you think they should meet potential partners?

Ginisatonic · 01/10/2024 16:43

Quite normal I’d have thought.

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 01/10/2024 16:43

Surely people who meet at work don't do it deliberately..?! You just like who you like!

Salmoney · 01/10/2024 16:43

It used to be probably the most common way to meet people. I'd rather meet someone at work than experience the horror and cesspit of online dating if I was single! Different if they're simply a creep who flirts with all of the women though.

Mydogisaknob · 01/10/2024 16:43

It's pretty normal to meet people through work, or it was before we all got stuck behind screens at home. It's not 'desperate', what a pejorative term.

MissyB1 · 01/10/2024 16:44

Wow who pissed on your bonfire?! Neither dh or I were "desperate" thanks, now been very happily married for nearly 20 years after meeting at work. What's your problem with that??

WolfFoxHare · 01/10/2024 16:44

Loads of couples meet at work.

MN is weird today.

Killingoffmyflowersonebyone · 01/10/2024 16:44

By the nature of my two jobs...most people were couples. One job involved a lot of international travel for extended periods (6 months to four years) and the other was as a vet. Hard to meet people in either profession (or in my case at university when I met my DP) who understand the toll the job takes on you unless they also do that job.

It happens all the time. Better than creeping around in a seedy bar or pub.

My partner was a customer where I work, does that make me desperate too?

Portalsalways · 01/10/2024 16:46

Lots of people date coworkers. Confused about that would mean men, specifically, must be desperate.

Doggymummar · 01/10/2024 16:47

I met two if my husband's at work. It's quite normal

Is this yet another weird thread from an op with no posting history, who asks an odd question and doesn't come back?

Yep that's why I can't be bothered to engage.

some bigger companies are introducing a “no one above you” (not sure if the pun is intended) policy which means you must not date/hang out with anyone who’s is more ‘junior and/or senior’ then you. It’s an attempt to stop work place harassment and sexual coercion, which I am all for but I find this approach slightly classist, TBH.

What is it you covet? 🧐

Not even a crumb of context.

Do they not know any women outside of work?
Do they not have any friends/relatives?

Wouldn’t dating a relative be more ‘desperate’?

AmICrazyToEvenBother · 01/10/2024 16:52

Are the women who date men they work with also 'that desperate'?

Do they not have any friends/relatives?
Are you suggesting that people date within their own families?!

Some introduced that a decade or so ago but then discovered their managers/a certain manager ignored it.

How rude. I met my dh at work - over 30 years ago.
