There are so many predatory men out there

For some reason, Facebook reels keeps bringing up those Peodophile hunter clips, I have no idea why, I usually watch cat videos!

I scroll past, but it's shocked me just how many men there are who contact children online, with a view to meet them. There are literally hundreds of these videos (in the UK) with all ages of normal looking men.

I have no idea what I want out of this post but I find it absolutely terrifying and I'm left feeling almost suspicious and paranoid about any man. Its bloody sad.

It's all down to algoritms. My feed bombards me - heaven knows why - with "Sovereign Citizen" car videos (very funny) and US religious rubbish.

There aren't really a vast number it's just the feed seems to over fixate on one or two subjects.

Soubriquet · 01/10/2024 09:54

Yep to algorithms. Mine keeps showing me Moo Deng which I have no problem with Grin

ViciousCurrentBun · 01/10/2024 09:55

A guy local to me has just been sent to prison for images of CSA and sexual activity with a minor, it’s the talk of the town.

I have worked as a volunteer with a DV charity and also food charities. Not all but many of the clients have MH issues and I would imagine that quite a few of the addicts I have met have a history of CSA.

It’s far bigger than anyone would care to admit. People don’t want to think about it as it’s so awful so it’s minimised. Seen it on here when it’s minimised by families and posters don’t want to attend a family event because a relative will be there that may have even been convicted. But the family is in denial.

Chersfrozenface · 01/10/2024 09:57

Australian research published last November found that, in that country, one in six men over 18 said they had sexual feelings for a child or teen younger than 18 years and one in ten Australian men has sexually offended against children.

If UK society is like Australian society, which I think it is, then there are indeed a lot of predatory men around.

ElsaMars · 01/10/2024 09:58

@Soubriquet Moo Deng videos! I'd be a lot happier with that 😄

Statistically, there is one on every street, that is the sad and sickening reality.

Devilsmommy · 01/10/2024 10:05

As amazing as the internet can be it's also unfortunately made it too easy for these disgusting cunts to get closer to their victims 😡

Doesn’t surprise me. What does surprise me is the people who defend them.

For example, a few years ago, I found out one of my old friends was sent to prison for the sexual assault of a 16 year old. He was over 40. It was sexual assault because she was underage. Most of us immediately cut him off yet some people were defending him because technically she was of legal age and 16 is old enough to consent etc etc etc

What kind of person could stick up for that? Those people would never be spoken to by me ever again. If you can minimise that what else would you minimise 🤨

Agree @ViciousCurrentBun

I think there’s lots of very naive people out there.

When Huw Edwards was arrested , there were a fair amount of people trying to minimise or almost defend him - that was shocking to me. Fortunately most normal people thought he was a disgusting nonce.

Too true.

I was just saying on another thread, when I rule the world, I will ban men and children from the internet.

Imagine what would happen to our crime stats if men and children couldn't use the internet.

Some years ago I knew a lady who had very young daughters, she was still with their dad.

One day she had them removed, and told us all it was the fault of these 2 'lying bitches' who had reported him.

These girls were young teens, and one had a child, the other pregnant by this man.

It wasn't his fault though, they both lied about their ages and seduced him... this bloke in his early 50s who had about 4 teeth.

She had all her kids removed and still stayed with him, last I heard she was going to keep having kids by him until she was allowed to keep one.

I was abused as a child too by my step father.

My own mother knew, as it transpired years later, when she forgave me for my 'affair' with her husband. I was 10, he was in his 50s.

Wherever there's a predatory man, there's someone who is willing to blame the victims ime.

Eightdayz · 01/10/2024 10:45

I can't disagree the premise of your post. But... i Dont know if facebook is the same as YouTube but Dislike/downvote/thumbs down to any videos you don't want to see. Eventually they won't show these anymore

Oh gosh, I’m so sorry to read that. My heart shattered for 10 year old you. You sound so strong.

Nd yes, the amount of people who defend these abusers is sickening.

i read the Australian survey too, I couldn’t believe the statistics. I live in Aus at the moment and work in criminal law, and CSA seems so prevalent. I know a lot of that is because through work I’m exposed to it daily, but I mean…it’s really prevalent. The older I get, the more I am just disgusted by the majority of people in this world. Men and their entitlement is horrific. I know it’s not always men, but usually is. But knowing so many women support these gross people just flabbergasts me.

Shortnotice · 01/10/2024 11:05

I feel the same, It's awful and so worrying, especially as I have a young son myself

Happyinarcon · 01/10/2024 11:47

It’s strange that schools aren’t allowing kids to take their mobile phones. A lot of parents are anxious about their kids traveling alone and it’s understandable

Other than rocket back to pre-internet era levels?

If you have these thoughts and urges where do you go for help? Where do you go? who do you talk to?

you can’t tell anyone they will think your a monster

Of course acting on it, viewing material is abhorrent, but there has to be a better way of managing this rather than waiting for someone to offend to lock them up.

I do agree, there should be some outlet where they can go and get help. I read something before how they usually go to dark places on the web and communicate with likeminded people. The more they talk it, the less taboo it becomes thus they’re more likely to become desensitised and either go more taboo / illegal or act upon their urges.

That’s the problem isn’t it, it becomes an echo chamber of acceptable and acceptance.

I don't even have to look online to see men's predatory behaviour. Just walking around town seeing how 40+ year old men staring lustfully at girls under 17.
News about doctors struck off for touching patients or colleagues, even men of the cloth and policemen.. it's rife and they aren't necessarily just the weirdos and society rejects that are predatory it's in all statuses and ranks of society. Sometimes i feel why did I inflict the 'gift' of life on my poor DD.

SecondFirst · 01/10/2024 12:46

If he knows how to dig out these materials he will know how to search for help but they don't want help. It's not a.resources issue. There is nonody more resourceful than an addict. An addict can stop by themselves, resources or lack off is immaterial and it's naive to think that getting them 'therapy' in a group or support session or even a 121 therapy can't be like an enablers group. There has been a case where a man was in a child protection role and from associating with so much paedophilia he started viewing allegedly out of curiousity. Maybe dealing with other pedos planted the seed or maybe he was always that way inclined. Point is people always find a way around what they want. I really believe there is no rehabilitation for some people execution is the only solution as you can't cure someone of a sexual orientation or fetish.

If your brain thinks this is ok there is no rehabilitation for you.

Meadowfinch · 01/10/2024 13:03

People's ability to kid themselves is terrifying. I had a female friend about 20 years ago. The police turned up at her door, removed all the devices in her house, arrested her boyfriend and searched their cars.

He was charged with child porn. He insisted he'd 'just looked once because he was curious'. Even after he was charged with 26 offences including two of the most serious level, she continued to defend him.

He was given a suspended sentence, put on the SOR. The police finally returned her works laptop. Shortly after that, she married him.

She was lovely, kind, intelligent, hard working, but somehow she just couldn't believe the evidence that was put in front of her.

Nannyoggapple · 01/10/2024 13:05

Some people will always abuse the weak.

Now that we've got instant 24/7 news and social media etc, I think we're all beginning to see how many predatory men there really are. The police are some of the very worst in fact. I've got to the stage where I don't think a woman, child (or pet even) could 100% trust any man.
