I am sure most of you are aware of all the tactics from scammers, but for those who haven’t heard of this one, I hope it will stop you being caught …
phone call yesterday whilst in car with husband from Barclays telling him did he put through a transaction from IT Solutions for £1800? He said no. Then the caller went through all the standard protocol of “have you given your card details to anyone else” , “been a victim of phishing in the past” etc etc. As we said no to everything, he responded by saying that was all good and they will send a new credit card to our address. He said the first line of the address could we confirm so we said yes, then postcode and we said yes. So at this point he hadn’t asked anything. But we were still unsure so we said that we wanted to call back Barclays to check this and he said that’s fine. He said he will text us a case number we could quote. So a text came through from Barclays, which was official. He asked for us to confirm this 6 digit code. But luckily there was a message attached to this code saying DO NOT GIVE THIS CODE OUT TO ANYONE and I thought hmmmm… so I said no. Anyway we hung up. DH called back Barclays. Yes it was a scam and the 6 digit code was the authorisation code that is generated by Barclays as he was obviously trying to put through this transaction remotely! Thank goodness we didn’t give it to him as Barclays implied that by us authorising the transaction then we are complying! He was so confident and obviously the call was much longer than I outlined above. It was very convincing and he had the script off perfectly. Please please be super vigilant! And any others to look out for will be helpful to know!
