My DS has just started Uni and it’s triggered his anxiety. What help could he get from the Uni, and what department should we contact?

Can you share what uni they are at?

There will be student counselling services. He could also talk to his personal tutor.

Thanks, I’ll get onto student services.

It will need to be your ds making the approach. There should be Student Support Services, also worth him talking to his personal tutor.

Is he on medication for anxiety or is this a new development? How bad are we talking?

As others have suggested, student services will be the first port of call but he will need to approach them himself. They will have student counsellors but there's usually a "reslife" team of older students who can offer support too.

There will be some sort of counselling or at least mental health advice service through student services. If you contact student services what they will or won't say to you will very much depend on if they have formal consent from your son to talk to you. But you should at least be able to have a general conversation about what support it offered at the university and what a student needs to do to access it.
