Bootcut - ironic or not?

I mostly live under a rock so please don't chastise me if I'm woefully behind, but i went in New Look yesterday and saw some bootcut jeans.

God I loved my bootcut jeans.

If a 47 year old woman wore bootcut jeans would her young colleagues etc nudge each other and stifle laughter. Yes I know I should wear what I want but I really don't want to be a silly old joke.

Does anyone really spend enough time staring at what is happening in the bottom quarter of anyone's legs to actually judge a slightly different shape of fabric?

Mossstitch · 29/09/2024 23:03

I'm about 20 years older and I wear them😳 I haven't heard my young colleagues laughing 😉

Humdrumdumb · 29/09/2024 23:03

Probably no more so than women of your age will look at some of their outfit choices. If you like them and they suit you, wear them!

GauntJudy · 29/09/2024 23:06

I suppose I'm asking if they are fashionable, in a mainstream, not edgy, way.

If you saw them in New Look then you can't get more mainstream than that. I'm 54 and I've been wearing bootcut and wide leg jeans all summer. My 24 year-old DD would have told me by now if I looked ridiculous

Pandasnacks · 29/09/2024 23:09

Honestly wouldn't notice what Jean cut colleagues wear. Guess it would depend what shoes you wear with them and top etc. I'd not judge regardless though, you don't need to be in 'mainstream fashion' just wear what you want and own it, the confidence is always in fashion!

TimelyIntervention · 29/09/2024 23:11

They’re totally mainstream OP.

I can’t decide how I feel about them. On the one hand they feel so delightfully familiar, on the other slightly odd because I know I am
not the same person who last wore them 20 years ago!

But yes, go for them!

StressedQueen · 29/09/2024 23:12

I'm 37 and wear them and I see a lot of women older than me wearing them! Skinny jeans just don't suit me (and my teenage daughters love to make fun of me for wearing them 🙄) and I love how bootcut look

DanielaDressen · 29/09/2024 23:13

They’re more likely to laugh at you if you wear skinnies. Wide leg jeans, straight leg and boot cut jeans are supposedly in.

WiserOlderElf · 29/09/2024 23:14

New Look is about as mainstream as it gets! I think you’ll be fine

Summertimer · 29/09/2024 23:17

I love jeans - I wear boyfriend, tapered, straight, skinny, wide leg, cropped, carpenter, utility but I don’t like bootcuts or any other flares or variants on a flare.

Chipsintheair · 29/09/2024 23:21

I'm 50 and I've always worn bootcut jeans. Almost very day for decades, in fact. They're the only ones that look sensible. (I like wide ones too, but they don't suit me because I'm short.)

PyreneanAubrie · 10/10/2024 13:38

I'm 60, always worn bootcut jeans (since my mid teens) and I still do. It's the only shape that works for me; I have an athletic build but chunky calves from walking. I wear bootcuts with hiking boots mostly and never ever with heels.
