I suppose context is everything but it was for coffee and cake for birthday a few weeks ago.

Dear old friend. Having a tough time
Lives 25 mins away. No meal just afternoon cake.

I just want to check I haven't short changed my friend by leaving to soon.

2 to 4 hours

Tel12 · 28/09/2024 21:29

2 hours is probably plenty

Mill3nnial · 28/09/2024 21:30

Her birthday or yours? What time was it? Did they invite you?

Twoshoesnewshoes · 28/09/2024 21:31

1.5 to 2.5 hours

Doggymummar · 28/09/2024 21:31

Couple of hours

MrsMcPlant · 28/09/2024 21:32

A couple of hours max.

Pooeys · 28/09/2024 21:34

I generally meet up for a couple of hours if the friends are local . If more than an hour away I would spend 3-4 hours depending on what we are doing ie dog walk ,lunch etc

mitogoshigg · 28/09/2024 21:36

2-3 hours allowed though I would judge it on the day, if I had less time i would phrase it in advance that I was popping in before x so no there's expectation of a longer visit, though different friends are different in how you treat this subject

Dillydollydingdong · 28/09/2024 21:39

I stayed for 5 hours but it was a lovely sunny afternoon sitting in the garden.

Sologurn · 28/09/2024 21:42

Depends if i have wine. If I do I usually overstay my welcome. If not then 2 hours, maybe 3 if the kids are there too

Probably 3-4 hours. Unless she seemed like she needed to get on

autienotnaughty · 28/09/2024 22:04

2-3 hours. I'd have left around 5 in your case.

Justleaveitblankthen · 28/09/2024 22:17

I would have left around 5pm then, assuming they will want to start their evening routine.
Unless they said otherwise.

Hate rush hour traffic though, so an extra brew for the road would be gladly accepted. ☕

AbraAbraCadabra · 29/09/2024 01:28

I think it depends on the friend. I rarely see people for less than 4 hours unless someone has somewhere else to go.

user1471462634 · 29/09/2024 07:25

I was going to say 2 nights- that's the first thing I thought of when visiting a friend up north! Didn't realize you meant local😆

Sounds like you played it just right.

I left at 5.10 so about right!

That’s the perfect amount of time. I’d have done the same.
