Herbal medicine? Why not ?

I would go the GP and ask to try some propanalol and possibly an antidepressant like citralopram.

I agree with seeing your gp and trying an antidepressant.

Herbal medicine? Why not ?

Please go see your gp and get something totally prescribed

I can understand your reluctance ,meds mean you are "ill" where as OTC means "just a wee bit of help"

As someone who has battled MH problems all my life and having years of breaking a nut with a sledge hammer , or whatever the expression is, can I say that modern meds are so much more better

Depending on whats really happening for you will depend on the prescription . A general anxiety will respond well to Med A, something a tad deeper might need B, plus a bit of A and sometimes a bit of C.

Implore you to speak with GP and not go the route of self medication

No. They don't work. I did try something off Amazon that did work but i can't recall the name just now.

just checked my Amazon orders and it was 5-HTP.

I agree with what others are saying about not ordering meds from Amazon though. I was lucky there. It zonked me out a bit at first but then it seemed to work pretty well.

In the end HRT from the GP was what worked for me.

Venlafaxine will stop anxiety with almost immediate effect. It is a POM, see your GP. Has side effects to start with, needs to be taken exactly as instructed and withdrawal us long, but if you cannot function, it will be a game changer. Panic attacks will be a thing of the past.

Amazon can be a bit dodgy and you never quite know if what you are buying is the genuine stuff. 5 htp is available from many other sources in the uk though if you want to try it. Holland and Barratt have it. Mine was a max strength on. It just took the edge off my anxiety by zoning me out a bit.

It was not a cure. HRT has been the cure i needed.

Propanolol is very good

BrickOtter · 28/09/2024 22:39

L- theanine is very good ,I have tried no end of supplements and this is the most effective I have found

beasmithwentworth · 28/09/2024 22:42

I second propranolol.I take a low dose of antidepressant / anxiety meds which is cumulative and takes a while to start working, has to be taken every day..

However with propranolol which the doctor prescribed alongside the ADs, you just take them when you feel particularly stressed and it tackles the physical symptoms (racing heart, knot in stomach etc) which in turn seems to calm everything down,

EmeraldRoulette · 28/09/2024 22:42

As a veteran of prescription meds, I can confirm that both Kalms and CBD are good if it’s not a desperate case. I still use them and have bought from Amazon.

Justnippinginthegaragelove · 28/09/2024 23:29

Propranolol is amazing, it stops the physical symptoms within 10 mins (but you'll need a prescription). I've tried CBD oil and Ashwaganda, but they're nowhere near as effective as propranolol

Hey @Threebutterflies24 what’s on your mind today - maybe starting a thread and asking for thoughts or held, could clear your mind a bit, and help you sleep

Also, have you moved much today? An anxious mind needs the body to move - get dancing/walking/whatever you can think of

sending hugs

Threebutterflies24 · 29/09/2024 09:36

Thanks . I do have an appointment at the doctors just thought I’d try herbal remedies first. But I shall ask for propranolol as that sounds the most recommended on here 👍🏼

Thankyou . I know I should try and be more active it’s hard when you’re feeling low. I’ll definitely try and go for a walk tomorrow and get out the house

Propanolol does only deal with the physical signs of anxiety though so if you struggle with racing thoughts it won’t deal with that, in the meantime try breathing techniques such as physiological sighing or 4-7-8 if you haven’t already tried them as these can also be very effective
