How long did you take off for gallbladder op?

I only started my new job six months ago but am fortunate that it offers full private healthcare so am able to have my gallbladder removed privately. They have offered a date for the middle of November. I'm sure work would be fine with me taking the time off, but how long feasibly would I need? I am desk based and primarily WFH apart from one/two days in the office.

I had 6 weeks off, the surgeon signed me off for 4 weeks and told me to take 4 weeks from the start.

i needed an extra 2 as i was anaemic, had some complications during the op and struggled to drive.

Two weeks. Surgeon told me afterwards it would feel like “period pain” but he was a man, so I should have known that was crap! I had it keyhole and it hurt more than I thought - not terrible but he had really played it down. I couldn’t lift anything at all for the first 5 days and putting my socks on was a struggle. After 2 weeks it was still sore, but more manageable. It took about a year before I could do sit ups without it pulling. Totally worth it though!

I was 45 and took a week off, but really could have done with two
Felt great after the 2 weeks, really worth it

I was off work but definitely too on 2-3 weeks to heal. Didn’t help that I had a six month old and hubby only had 2 days off work. I definitely over did it and the wounds kept opening.

Zero days, didn't even tell them, back to emails in the afternoon... life of a contractor!
