Did you ever run away from home?

When I was eight, my mum wouldn't let me have a guinea pig, so I said I was running away from home. She made me a packed lunch with a cheese sandwich and waved me off. I was pretty non-plussed, ate my sandwich and went home about half an hour later. She very kindly didn't comment on my return.

Did you ever run away?

Yes I did. Also aged about 8 over something probably completely pathetic.

Went and sat up the road for an hour or two until my mum came a picked me up, think I got a milkshake when I got home as a welcome back present 😂

Edingril · 28/09/2024 00:03

Once for about an hour so then rung my mum to come and get me

I ran away to a playground about 5 mins away once and took my Easter eggs with me. I sat eating one on the swing for a couple of hours or something and then I got really bored so decided to go home, just for a tiny while you know 😉 until I decided where I was going next 😂 when I walked through the front door no one cared, mom and stepdad were just sat watching TV, no one had even noticed I was gone 😆 I was furious 😞

Yes. I was 11. My dad wouldn’t let me get my ears pierced. So I ran away to live with my grandmother. As I figured she’d let me do whatever I wanted to. took money from my mum’s purse, wrote a note and left.

gott my grandmother’s and she phoned my mum to tell her where I was. Disappointing!

she walked me back down to the bus stop and put me n the bus to go home.

when I got home I saw my Dad’s car was there so I was shitting mysel. My mum had called him home from work as although she had read the note she thought I was having her on. As if I was that bright! 😂

any way I got in trouble. But I also got my ears pierced!

I used to flounce off a lot, so not run away but announce I was going, pack my bags and head to a friends.

I was a right mare, especially to my mum. We were, and still are, quite alike so we rubbed each other up the wrong way. We now get on pretty well!

Not me but my mum. As I recall the story, was about 7/8 and decided she was going to run away. So she packed up her most important things - several Guinea pigs into the lid of a dustbin. Ran away all the way round the corner of the road to wait for her dad (my grandad).

He picked her up and took her/them home and nothing ore was said.

Well, several weeks later she was told if she was to ever run away not to take the pigs. There was now roughly 40 of them 🙈

No. I should've though.

GrandTheftWalrus · 28/09/2024 03:10

Yes I packed a bag and went to my grans house. Both my mum and my gran found it hilarious

Cheekymonkye · 28/09/2024 03:21

Yes about aged 7 . Packed a carrier bag and set off on my bike to the park the next street over . Plan was to sleep there to teach everyone a lesson.

spent a little while at the park entrance just looking at it ( well I knew I would be in trouble if I went in by myself)

then went home

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 28/09/2024 04:14

Yes far too many times from the ages of 10-12, I took a couple of tarps to form a tent, some books, sandwiches, juice, change of knickers and socks and usually took off in the dead of night. My poor mother used to be up the walls even putting locks on the bedroom door didn't work as id jump out the upstairs window. Id usually come back 24/48 hours later, I used to go and camp out in a dericlet church and graveyard. I was a weird kid and obsessed with graveyards.

Thepossibility · 28/09/2024 04:20

My parents were extremely abusive. One day I took my younger brother and sister and we ran away. We decided to go to a local church because they would be the most likely to help us. They told us to go home and that was that.

sashh · 28/09/2024 09:40

No but I seriously contemplated it in my teens.

I sometimes think maybe I should have done.

That’s awful - you would have thought they’d have helped.

I ran away aged 15, I was gone for over a year before my parents reported me missing.

LovelyCarrott · 30/09/2024 22:34

I did. I would shout that nobody loved me and I'd had enough and was going to live somewhere else. I would pack a nap sack god knows why. Think a pillow case stuffed with a teddy and not even any food. I would leave and stand on the door step and realise nobody gave a shit, then knock to be let back in. This was a frequent thing aged about 5. As a teen I didn't but I had a split household so it changed it up a bit. Practically lived at my grans at one point as a teen because I hated the neighbour's dog.

I am really sorry to hear this. I hope things worked out for you.

My sister packed to run away once. She packed all her cuddly toys into carrier bags on the bed ready to go. There must have been 10 or 12 bags. She was maybe 7. That's as far as she got!
