I can't think of all the wonderful things I've seen with Dame Maggie. I know a life well lived, and age comes to us all, but what a wonderful woman. Any favourites?

One of the absolute best.

Another vote for Ladies in Lavender here, she was wonderful.

Loved all her roles, but IRL, she was presented with an achievement award and prior to her accepting it, clips of her many performances were shown.
When eventually they stopped, she stepped up to the podium and said “Thank heavens, I thought we were going back to the silent films” or something similar😁

EmeraldRoulette · 27/09/2024 17:18

I was privileged enough to see her on stage when I was a teen, she was Lady Bracknell

I knew she was amazing from her films but that performance has a lot to do with my love for theatre as well

It’s absolutely the end of an era. Thank you Maggie - so much joy brought to so many people. I wish I had the words.

Awww no! :(

The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne. Just superb acting

Onelifeonly · 27/09/2024 17:21

I loved her in everything I saw her in. Not a HP fan though. She had such a presence, she was mesmerising to watch.

Aww I know. I saw a TikTok tribute of all the little clips and it was lovely . I just admired her character and spirit that was threaded into everything

Turns out there’s another thread

I came out of a meeting and saw the news

A few years ago when she was ill, I said to my colleagues, this is going to be gutting when it happens

and she has added to her extraordinary work since I said that!

it was such an experience to see her on stage. Such a remarkable performer. It feels like such a change in the world now.

I sort of wish I’d met her but I’d never have been able to say anything 😂

R.I.P. wonderful lady! Amazing actress. From The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie, to Sister Act, to Ladies in Lavender, to Harry Potter, to The Lady In The Van, I have loved her for YEARS.

One thing that I enjoyed seeing, was at the BAFTAs around 8-9 years ago, when Leonardo DiCaprio gave Dame Maggie a kiss on the Valentine kiss-cam. She looked so happy!l! 😁 It was adorable! 😍

R.I.P. Dame Maggie Smith. What a sad loss. Flowers

Dame Maggie Smith - RIP and thank you for your wonderful work

I loved all her work but Jean Brodie was my favourite.

EmeraldRoulette · 27/09/2024 23:48

Little gels, I am in my prime!

that character is like a real person to me.

I haven’t seen Keeping Mum but hopefully I can find that somewhere.

Saintmariesleuth · 27/09/2024 23:49

A fantastically talented actress. She always put in an exceptional performance, but I will always think of her as the dowager.

UmaNipples · 27/09/2024 23:51

She was just so consistently brilliant

I performed Bed Among The Lentils a few years ago. It was tough, but she made it look so easy.

I loved her in Evil Under The Sun and California Suite. But one of my fave moments is a cut scene from Gosford Park where her maid denies overhearing an argument and she has a facial expression that manages to be fake innocent AND triumphant at the same time.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 28/09/2024 09:31

i didnt see any of these threads last night
but I need to rewatch everything she was in.
i have found A bed among the lentils which i remember so well, its on iplayer
