How high is your bed?

Stayed at a few hotels recently and some of the beds were almost level with my hips, I’m not mega short, 5’ 3” but when I sit on the edge my feet don’t reach the floor. Is there a reason? We’ve had a divan king size for about 15 years, I remember when we got it thinking it was high, but after a replacement even bigger mattress and then a mattress topper it’s even higher and again, my feet dangle off the edge. We have a lower bed in the spare room and I much prefer it, it just feels more comfortable to be lower I think.
Is it just me or are beds getting higher?

I don’t think I could get in that! Why is it so high? Mine is 73cm

I have steps (that are meant to help you get into a bath) next to my bed as it’s so high!

Ours is high but its one of those lift up divan storage ones and you can fit so much stuff in there it's amazing. I had to get a new bedside light though as my old one was so low I could no longer read by it.

Staunchlystarling · 27/09/2024 09:27

Ours is high as the mattress is so thick.

Sorry, that’s funny! Why do they make them so high?

Yes I was thinking storage was one reason, I might have to sacrifice the divan drawers for a lower bed next. But then divans used to be the norm and they were never so high!

Ours is pretty high too (an Ottoman bed for extra storage plus a really thick mattress.) I actually really like a high bed although I'm not sure I can articulate why. Maybe it makes me feel like a princess 🤣.

I also think lower beds are more difficult to get out of if you have mobility problems or for older people? My elderly dad likes a tall bed as otherwise he struggles to get up from seated if he is too low.

52cm
It's a low one
It's one with drawers in for storage

We're staying in holiday accommodation at the moment and the bed is so low it's a real struggle to get up from. We're not that old, but obviously unfit.... Same with the sofa - we're sitting on the dining chairs because the sofa is low. Very trendy though Hmm

I love a high bed… so much easier to get into and out of!

Yes I think so, although if you don’t need it, getting up from a low seat or bed regularly would be a good exercise to keep you able.

@KimWexlerGoodman

It's got a giant mattress and a topper on top, plus it's a huge bed anyway! We're both over 6ft so anything shorter would probably feel really odd 😂

RainbowWife · 27/09/2024 09:48

We have a Premier Inn mattress so it's HIGH! And I love it.

We previously had a super thin Dormeo memory foam one and it was so low it hurt my bad back getting in and out. This new one feels like I climb in it!

So would jumping up onto a high bed 😁.
DH is 6'4" and I'm 6'2" so we have issues with lots of stuff.

Very good point! Ha ha! DH is 6’2”, I’m 5’3”, we might need separate different height beds as we get older!
