Hydrogen Peroxide from Pharmacy

Does anyone know why it’s not possible to buy hydrogen peroxide (like in the attached pic) from pharmacies anymore? It was great for sore throats. I’ve tried 4 today and all say they can’t get it. One said to try online.

Is the stuff on Amazon (which says it’s a cleaning product) the same? I want to dilute and gargle with it.

I think it can be an ingredient in bomb making or something like that ?

Yes I believe so.

You can get it from Amazon though.

MadKittenWoman · 25/09/2024 20:54

Yes, just bought some from Amazon.

Surely that’s always been the case though. Why stop selling it all of a sudden?

Is the stuff on Amazon that’s sold as a cleaning product exactly the same stuff?

No idea. I don't use it for cleaning. I don't bleach my hair. I don't make bombs.

But it's a chemical available in varying degrees of %age solution.

Dodgy stuff. Take care.

I get mine from Amazon and it's mega cheap, last lot was £6 delivered for a litre. I use it for plant propagation, cultivating mushrooms, cleaning sheets after shark week disasters and teeth whitening.

Sounds handy to have! What strength is best for all that?

logicisall · 26/09/2024 08:23

ChatGPT tells me 3% strength, but I would assume that 6% could be appropriately diluted for the relevant use.

WitchyBits · 26/09/2024 08:39

Yes I get 3% and I get the one in a squirt bottle for ease of use.

Tried many chemists this morning. Mostly met with blank looks or "we used to stock it", but Superdrug pharmacist said no longer stocked due to high risk. Which is best from Amazon for use as gargle/wound cleaner?

roses2 · 28/09/2024 15:57

Food grade would be safe I hope? There are lots labelled "food grade" on amazon:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=food+grade+hydrogen+peroxide&crid=3GGZBSBD28Z6A&sprefix=food+grade+hydrogen+peroxide%2Caps%2C107&ref=nb_sb_noss_1

Summerhillsquare · 28/09/2024 15:59

Bleach? Don't gargle with bleach.
