A what would you do question, sorry it’s long!
My daughter has autism and attends our catchment school. After a bit of a battle she goes to nurture provision everyday which has really helped. Communication at this school has always been an issue and she has a health condition I don’t trust is managed properly and it makes me increasingly anxious to send her.
Last year we moved my older child to a different school due to several children in his class having additional needs not being met and the consequences were chair throwing, physical violence and the class being evacuated most days. 3 teachers left in 4 months because of this. His new school has been a breath of fresh air, he’s a different child and loves school again. I trust them implicitly and the whole feeling of the school is worlds apart.
Daughter has now been offered a space at this school, we were delighted but after meeting the headteacher today she explained they have nothing similar to nurture and no provision to offer this. Their senco is also in her notice period and they haven’t yet recruited a replacement so it’s likely this role will go unfilled for a while.
What would you do? Move her to the “better school” knowing they have less Sen provision or leave her where she is and be unhappy with the management of her health condition and communication?
