If anyone is thinking of getting a tattoo but is nervous - do it

I've had a tattoo booked for 3 months. Could t sleep last night with nerves and nearly cancelled it this morning

However I donned my big girl pants and went for it and it was absolutely fine, I don't know what I was worried about so if anyone is wanting one but too scared/nervous - do it 😁

Over the years, I have wanted tattoos. But I always changed my mind anyway after a few months.

PuppiesLove · 24/09/2024 23:08

I think if someone has any hesitation at all about a tattoo, they shouldn't do it. It's permanent.

Neveranynamesleft · 24/09/2024 23:11

I wouldnt tell anyone to go get something done just because I had.

Predictable answers

Im simply telling anyone putting off doing it because they're nervous or scared it's gonna hurt that it doesn't and it's not that bad

Don't want one? Don't get one: they're easy enough to avoid

Trouble is you might hate it in a few years. Too permanent and in fashion right now but like slug eyebrows and blow up lips… fashions change….

It does hurt. Especially towards the end.

I think there are some tattoos you're unlikely to regret. Me and two friends have one for a close personal loss. They're discreet and meaningful. I don't think we'll ever regret those.

SunsetSkylane · 24/09/2024 23:16

Getting a tattoo is the best kind of pain; tolerable and even pleasurable.

I'm currently working on ideas for my fifth; the more I get the less time there is between them.

It's kind of addictive, and I love every design I've chosen.

Nope, this has been carefully designed and planned for months, it's extremely meaningful and personal to me
I'll never regret it

After realising it didn't hurt as much as I remember, my last tattoo being 20 years ago, I'd booked another one before leaving the shop today 😁

Our DD wanted a butterfly on her hip in honour of her grandma (my mum who we called butterfly)
She persuaded me to get one and go first.
In I go and it wasn't too painful.
A young lady came out of the next room and told DD how much it hurt.
I came out and dd had changed her mind.
I was telling mum about this and even though I was over 45 I got told off.

bear playing GIF

This is why I waited for ages for each one, I currently have 5. They are permanent and you need to know that you have them for life, unless you pay for removal. Each one has meaning to me, each one is discreet, even though a couple aren't small, nobody would actually know I had them! Love them (I do, so long as they're tasteful!) or hate them, it's all down to personal choice. But the pain is quite addictive to me I have to say! And it all depends on which area of your body you have it, as to the level of pain. Planning my 6th, but it won't be for a few years yet, so that I know I'm happy with my choice.

Mls1984btc · 24/09/2024 23:27

I remember reading somewhere that mentioned getting your body tattooed is equivalent of wearing a same piece of jewellery/clothing for the foreseeable future.

Is not for me but good for you OP if that's what you always want.

MoonWoman69 · 24/09/2024 23:27

What the hell?! What did I accidentally tap to get the bear?! 🤣🤣🤣

That's the kind of tattoo I think carries a very low risk of regret. What a lovely idea.

I have one and people are always surprised I have any. They don't think I seem the type. I'm not but it has a lot of meaning. It's quite fun shaking up people's assumptions about me.

JobMatch3000 · 24/09/2024 23:39

In a similar vein, I needed a tooth extraction. I kept putting it off and rescheduling my appointment because I was scared of the pain and was worried I wouldn't be able to chew again on that side of my mouth.
Long story short, eventually got it done and it's been more than fine and has helped resolve other dental issues I was having.
I think we are always scared of the unknown - and why once people have one tattoo, they go back for more. The mystique of the "process" is gone.

GrizzLee · 24/09/2024 23:44

I love the bear @MoonWoman69

@Thekormachameleon where did you have your tattoo?

spikeandbuffy · 24/09/2024 23:46

I'm booked for a new one next month and a touch up of an existing one

My last one was 5hrs and by the end I was grouchy Grin but determined to get it done in one sitting. It felt like sandpaper when she was wiping it down

shellyleppard · 24/09/2024 23:46

@Thekormachameleon can we see a picture..... please???? I didn't get my first one till I was 35 , nervous as....
Now have four. All with special meaning for me 🙏❤️

Mrscharlieeeee · 24/09/2024 23:52

I'm covered; chest, sleeves, thighs, shin, back. If you're sitting for a full day session, it hurts. An hour blast and it's fine. At this point I get anything I want as I have so many, I appreciate when it's your first tattoo it's a big decision. I don't go for trendy stuff, traditional tattoos with bold lines that will hold up over time is my ink of choice. Just research your artist, be realistic about sizing and placement. Fine line is most likely to bleed and be a blotch in a decade.

BunnyLake · 24/09/2024 23:56

I had one done many year’s ago. It’s not a big one but it really hurt, like a razor blade cutting your skin. I never had another one. 😬

spanieleyes22 · 25/09/2024 00:16

Don't do it op!

Thistooshallpass24 · 25/09/2024 01:22

@MoonWoman69 I was more concerned about your dancing/trumpet playing bear than the advice to get a tattoo! 🐻

WhoOfWhoville · 25/09/2024 01:32

*Unless you intend to get a moustache tattooed on your index finger or that little tiny lawnmower man next to your pines - then DEFFO DO NOT do it.

Was this your first tattoo my love? How big is it?

Because I’ve got a tattoo on my back that took 15 hours over multiple sessions and cost £1500 and that really fucking hurt. Tattoos hurt, the more of them you get the more they hurt, I dunno why, but it’s a thing. You will see the most tattooed people who will shudder and dry heave at the idea of getting another one, they always do though.
