If anyone is thinking of getting a tattoo but is nervous - do it

I've had a tattoo booked for 3 months. Could t sleep last night with nerves and nearly cancelled it this morning

However I donned my big girl pants and went for it and it was absolutely fine, I don't know what I was worried about so if anyone is wanting one but too scared/nervous - do it 😁

It’s not the pain that’s put me off, it’s the fear of regret later

I remember a 23 yo I met who was sure she’d never regret her tattoos because she’d wanted the same ones “for at least a year” so that was forever apparently

I quite like the lawnmower man idea mind you

suburberphobe · 25/09/2024 01:39

It's kind of addictive

It really is.

I would never put ink into my body. Just not natural.

The only ones I love are Maori ones. They rest look awful.

Cos you gonna end up with wrinkly skin and then what?!

*Unless you intend to get a moustache tattooed on your index finger or that little tiny lawnmower man next to your pines - then DEFFO DO NOT do it.

I’ll have wrinkly skin with wrinkly pictures on it.

I love my tattoo even though it hurt like hell having it done, one day I will have some more done around it. Mine is on the bottom of my back, I've been told it is one of the most sensitive places to have one done, mine is a red rose I had done when my late dp died, I want to have his name & dates added around it. I've seen a cartoon one I would love on my thigh of Calvin & Hobbes, I would imagine it would cost a fortune & take ages to have done.

Tangelablue · 25/09/2024 02:21

I like tattoos and have 9, but I'm currently in the process of having one removed from my shoulder. Now that's painful but only lasts a few minutes. I had my first appointment in April and have no idea how long it will take till its completely gone but I'm so looking forward to it not being there.

I once said the same. Never say never. Now I have one and it's a great comfort to me. I will never touch it up or do anything with it. How it changes over time is part of the journey and story it represents.

Always this stupid response.

I'm gonna end up wrinkly ANYWAY! Why not do it with cool as fuck art on my body?

I think if someone has any hesitation at all about a tattoo, they shouldn't do it. It's permanent.

It's not. Tattoo removal is expensive and time consuming but it does work.

What the hell?! What did I accidentally tap to get the bear?! 🤣🤣🤣

Thank you, I can’t stop laughing at the bear, it’s like he’s giving your post its own soundtrack 😂😂😂😂

Funnywonder · 25/09/2024 08:33

I get what you're saying OP. I have no intention of getting a tattoo (even though I often like them on other people) but if anyone is thinking about it, it all went better than you thought.

That bear gif though🤣🤣🤣

artictern · 25/09/2024 08:35

I’m in the slow, painful, expensive process of having a tattoo removed that I thought I really wanted but turns out was a mistake. I would caution the opposite!

Kizmette · 25/09/2024 08:35

I got a lot of tattoos in my teens, 20s and very early 30s.

I'm in my 40s now and HATE every one of them

I didn't start until I was 38 so made wiser choices than I would have otherwise.

Does it work entirely though? I hear it's also very painful. But good point. There is a way to do something about unwanted tattoos.

hurklebum · 25/09/2024 09:03

To the poster nervous about a larger thigh piece, I had my second thigh piece done 10 days ago. Took 4 and a half hours, hurt, worth every second. Calvin and Hobbes rock, btw.

To the 'you'll raegert [sic] it' persons:

Everybody is different. Maybe they will. Maybe they won't.

I figure that now I'm wellll into my late summer, I'll only have 20 or so years to regret it, so what the hell? Also, the thighs of mid fifties me are dimply like cottage cheese (ta, menopause) , so putting artwork on 'em is doing everybody a favour. And a great excuse to wear slit thigh Rita Ora skirts from Primarche, and short shorts.

Why is it ‘cool as fuck’ 😂

What a weird question. You are asking someone to explain why they think artwork is cool? Art is subjective! That's the posters opinion!

I've 2 tattoos, planning a 3rd. All have meaning to me. I look forward to them being wrinkly and explaining the meaning of them to people who come into my life in the future.

Thekormachameleon · 25/09/2024 09:40

To answer the regret and wrinkly skin comments - I basically don't care 😁
I don't regret things, I might accept that some choices weren't the best choices but I also accept I made the decisions I thought best at the time. I apply that to everything in life

If, for some reason I later come to dislike the tattoo, I still won't regret it and will smile at the memory of making a decision that pleased me at the time.

Wrinkly skin ? Well if I'm wrinkly I'm wrinkly, might as well be wrinkly with a pretty picture on 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes, it does and yes, it’s very painful! I had a small rose on my breast for about 10 years. Took 6 sessions to remove, 6 weeks apart. I don’t know if it’s still the case but back in the early 2000’s Belfast was a centre of excellence for tattoo removal (I lived in Dublin at the time so not a long trip).

SunsetSkylane · 25/09/2024 09:52

Because I chose it for me based on my taste and nobody else's so I obviously think so @Sanyagupt

artictern · 25/09/2024 10:05

Also regarding tattoo removal, the laser works best on pale skin. If you have darker skin, it doesn’t work as well. It still works but the results will take much longer. I’m not sure about very dark skin tone. The laser works by zapping the darker pigments of the ink vs the skin tone. I have sort of Mediterranean skin tone and it is taking forever.

It's not the tattoos themselves, they're all well thought out and done by good artists

I just don't want to be tattooed now

I'm not sure this is true.

My sister had an entire sleeve.

She's been removing it for 4 years now. She's spent a fortune and you can still see it
