Where to eat- Oxford to Banbury

I'm looking for a reasonably priced pub for a 3 generation family of 15 to meet for an 18th birthday lunch, somewhere in the area between Oxford and Banbury. Any suggestions please? It would be a Saturday in December if that means anything.

Gentle bump. Anyone?

The Falcon at Warmington?

The Wild Rabbit in Kingham. On a train line too, if that helps anyone.

Is Chipping Norton too far off to the left? (first time anyone has ever described CN as "left"!)

Or Bicester Village? Plenty of places to eat there and an 18 year old might be able to spend his or her birthday money there and then!

Chipping Norton has plenty of that sort of place though, like the Blue Boar.

That's a good location. Thank you!

Second the falcon it's a great pub. You're in for a treat!

The Red Lion near Banbury (village just outside) is also good

The Trout in Wolvercote on the outskirts of Oxford? It's a pretty old pub on the river.

Sturdys Castle a few miles north of Kidlington. Haven't eaten there for years but always seems to be very busy.
The Duck On The Pond in South Newington, very popular and according to my OH they do very good food.
The Boxing Hare just along the A361 from South Newington, a gastro pub which has restricted opening however appears to be popular when it is open.

Oh this is all fantastic- thank you all so much. I'll be whipping up a spreadsheet later today to pick one!! Grin

Another vote for The Falcon. The Boxing Hare, on the Banbury-Chipping Norton road is also fabulous, as is the Castle at Edgehill (fabulous views).

ScoobyDoesnt · 26/09/2024 07:35

I was going to say the Castle at Edgehill too. Also the Great Western Arms at Aynho.

Woodstock is worth a browse:

To be honest there is a lot of choice in that area.

Not eaten at the Castle at Edgehill, but have at the sister inns and they are excellent. The views are great, at least in Summer. One of Vladimir Putin's favoured UK locations.
