Phone problem question!

Milkandacookie · 24/09/2024 14:36

This is my mums phone and I said I'd fix it for her but I'm not actually sure what's wrong!!! Does it just need drying out or a new screen or going to A Place? (the sort of watery marks in the corner. Not fussed about the odd chip)

She said it wasn't working but it seems to be working when I use it...

We're both low income so don't want to spend unnecessarily!

What do you want to fix, the dodgy display or that it requires a pin number?

Milkandacookie · 24/09/2024 19:18

Oh sorry no the pins fine she knows her number!

It was the display/and that she said it wasn't working, but actually now it's charged it seems to be working. It might just be the display? Did it get wet??

Take the screen protector off?

Terrribletwos · 24/09/2024 19:23

Looks like it has had water get in somehow, not fully immersed but maybe splashed with quite a bit of water.

Try and dry it out in a warm place.

Milkandacookie · 24/09/2024 20:56

If I take the protector off could I break it?

Do I need to take it off to dry it out?

She had it in a sandwich bag (don't ask) so could be condensation maybe?

Yeah could be condensation. It does look like it. Worst thing to do with them is to put it in a bag, she'll end up with water in it from condensation. Better to put a proper case on it or a cloth bag if she must have it in one.

Peel the protector off though, it might just be under that, its only round that edge. Its just a sticky back plastic. You can always get a new one, they're only a couple of pounds.

Milkandacookie · 24/09/2024 21:57

Thankyou. I'll see if I can peel it off. I'm so clueless.

Yes she was in hospital and had it in a sealed plastic bag for a week (she's blamed it on the nurses 🙄) so I did wonder.

Is it fixable? Will it just dry out of the bag if I keep it a few days? I'm going to try again to convince her a soft bag is fine...

If you take the screen protector off you should be able to just wipe it dry. If it's under the screen itself it may well be buggered. It'll dry out, it's just whether you can dry it quickly enough to prevent damage and whether its gotten into anything crucial.

I dropped my Blackberry in the sink once. I took out the battery, sim and opened any cover that did open, stuffed it with a sock and left it in the airing cupboard for a few days. It did work and gradually the keypad lights came back on and it was OK but most phones don't open up that easily now so it's harder to dry them out.
